Aside from me wanting to get one, why don't we have these here? This is a cool truck! (crew cabs thrill me) I didn't see a option on the ford america site for one.

anyone else have M.O.'s from this picture?

I believe those have diesel engines. American consumers aren't big on diesel engines in regular cars and trucks, which is why Ford isn't selling them here.

Why couldn't they just shove a gasoline engine in it?

That's a good question. Why hasn't Ford redesigned the Ranger since the early 90s? Another good question.

All the auto makers have had trucks that we real truck people would love to have built in Europe for years. The double cab mini-truck craze is not a new idea. Toyota, Nissan, and Ford have had them since the early 80s over there. Toyota builds the truck that I would love to have. It's a Tacoma double cab with a turbo diesel (yes I want a diesel) 4cyl, 5 speed, solid axles front and rear. The axles are updated Land Cruiser design with open knucles, and full floaters. All of this comes straight from the factory.

When I was in Bosnia I wanted to bring one home but figured the cost of making it legal and the tariff's would be sick.

Why couldn't you attach it to a helicopter, or sneak it into a cargo hold on a aircraft carrier? oh damn. Not another stowaway! Insist it is like the rats that get onto the ship on different ports, but this one just happened to have 4 wheels. and a engine. and happens to look like a truck :D I'm not a toyota fan (ford guy all the way here) but are there any pictures on the net, especially of the engine? is it a toyota power plant, or a different brand?

I tried like hell to get some cargo space. We didn't end up bringing our equipment home so it would have been hard to do. Ford had one too but the Toyota was awesome. I haven't seen any pics lately but will have to do a search. The toyota was powered by a toyota engine.

I guess those diesels that GM, Ford, VW, etc made in the 70s-80s really turned consumers off to diesel power. Remember the diesel ranger or the VW Rabbit truck? Those things really put down some torque:rolleyes:

With gas here going for 1.91 a gallon I'd love a VW TDI Jetta for a daily driver.

I'd be all over a compact truck diesel.:

Man there was a lot of diesels for sale in the US market back then, a lot of them were damn good engines too! Unrefined but damn good! One of my uncles had a diesel Izuzu and a diesel Benz, he took both cars to well over 300k, and they were going strong when he got rid of them too!

Only 2 cabs EVER!
83-92 and 93-current (unless you count 3" add in '98)

They we're gonna change it in '04 but got put back too '06-'07. They figured well it's still #1 why change?

I think you will see one soon, they don'y have a choice, and you will see a 4 dr. They want to dump the Sport Trac.

The best Senario? We get a all new redisigned Ranger, With S-cab and 4 Dr combos, Maybe ...just maybe a V8 and if there really smart set it up so they can build the new Bronco on it. We'll Keep the 8.8 and get a coil over front like the new 150 I think (Yeah no T-bars!) Be patient the New Ranger will be great or a huge disater:rolleyes:

"They want to dump the Sport Trac. "

Yeah with the pre 01 4 dr gone and now the sport gone it's the only one in the plant being built and they want to shut down that plant or move something else in. The only thing is they sell over 60k a year of them:rolleyes: Not bad for a one off.

I think it's kinda funny though because they only built the ST because they sold more EX's then Rangers. Otherwise they would have just built a 4 dr ranger.:p

Not quite true, they sold it as an explorer to help keep the explorer as the #1 suv. The ranger does not need any help;)
