Yes double posting is wrong, but theres no need to tear his head off, he was just asking a question and is new to the board.

Hey guys dont squabble on my account.
Sorry to be a be pushey but Im feeling kinda lonely with this problem over here in dreary England
Im tryin to build a case to pressure Ford UK into admitting at least some responsibility for my dilema.
Any info on recent getures of goodwill from Ford on related prblems would be appreciated!!!

Gestures of "Good Will" from a Corporation??? Ha, forget that!!! They are just like any other corp, they will only do something for you if you prove its their fault or if you have them over a barrel on some legal issue. I would get a second opinion from a reputable shop, maybe they can do a rebuild or partial rebuid for cheaper price than Ford replacing a motor for you. I have looked into rebuilt engines for my x here in the US, and have found some for $2,000 with warrenty (not installed)

you're right. I fully applogize to pzackerly if that seemed harsh and blunt, it came out wrong and i assure there was no "mean" feelings involved.

as for your engine; truthfully its a sucky situation and I can't see the dealer helping at all with it out of "good will". I have an SOHC with 135K miles on it and im praying it keeps on going because i couldnt afford a repair like that.

wish you the best of luck with that.

there was a recall on the tensioners, which may have caused your problems. dunno what you can do in the uk, but heres a link:

Hi, this is my first post (only owned my first explorer for 24hrs!) but I might be able help here.

The 1997 Ex I have just bought has less than 2000 miles on a new engine and gearbox that were fitted by Ford in Oct 2003 after a similar tensioner failure trashed the origional ones. This was all arranged by the PO so I can't help with the details of his negotiations but there were a couple of things that he mentioned. This particular Ex had missed the recall that rfuree11 mentioned - this is Ford's fault as the Ex has a full service history and should have been caught at a service. Secondly the overall mileage was less than 70,000 miles - lower than this was classed as a premature failure, over this figure would have been classed as a normal failure.

So I hope this helps you knowing that they have recently admitted liability for this failure in the UK. Email me if you think I can help further.

Cheers
DaveW
