I have a 97 Exp Sport, 2W drive, OHV 4.0L, manual trans.

I am going to install a new clutch, master, slave and all that good stuff.

I have been told that there are two flywheels for this truck. One is an 8 bolt mount and the other is a 6 bolt mount. The six bolt flywheel can be turned down and shimmed, but the eight bolt must be replaced.

I was told the only way to tell which flywheel I have is to tear the truck down and look. Unfortunately, this means I have to buy both flywheels, and return one.

My question is, does anyone have a way to tell which flywheel is in the Exp without tearing it down first?

Well, lo and behold it was an 8 bolt. I am sure glad I ordered both of em' to have on hand.

I am also very happy that the 8 bolt is a hundred bucks cheaper than the 6 bolt. I got lucky on both counts. :D

Everything went well. Bleeding was a bear, but the vacuum pump helped. It still took a couple of hours even with the bench bleeding.

Thanks to everyone who posted information on their clutch change experiences. It went well in part due to the research of the forums.
