I have a 93 xlt 4 dr and this winter has been real harsh on the sheetmetal . I noticed about a week ago that the plastic trim mounted under the rockers was loose so i crawled underneath to see how bad the rockers were.I found that on both sides toward the rear wheel wells the rockers are completly gone and the trim is just flapping in the wind. This really suprised me considering there is absolutly no rust anywhere else on my X. I think some of my problem may be that my truxus sts tires sling alot of crap and it not real easy to keep that area cleaned with the trim there . Has anybody ever replaced their rockers .If so how much were they and how big of a job is it?

Well, it is a fun job. My 92 2 door did the same thing and you have to basically cut out the rust and put new panels in. I also found that Ford had put in a couple of plastic bags filled with insulation or something in them and what happens to that is it absorbs the salt/sand/water and as it weeps out it causes a nice caustic solution that keeps getting wet with rain as well

Same thing here...I just tapped around the loose rust/scale and huge pieces (3") just fell off. I only have 1/2 of the rockers left supporting some tupperware.. I was thinking I would just cut them out all together when the get really bad... Mabe a welder is in the future...

Where did you get your rocker? I've been thinking about just taking some flat sheet metal and forming it (or try to) for a sort of partial replacement so I wouldn't have to cut out the entire rocker. If I were to do this I think I would just rivit it in since it's all covered by the trim and the door when closed..then re-herculine the new patch. Might be a dumb idea just wondering :)

Thanks!
