Over the last couple of days, I've been noticing something disturbing about my '99 XLT (2WD). When I step on the gas, the vehicle seems to stutter. I'm going to take it into the shop this Monday, but I was hoping if someone could say..."yep, sounds like a transmission problem" so that way I could be prepared for the worse when I go in Monday. What are typical signs of the transmission failing?

stutter seems to normally be attributed to needing a tuneup..... now reving high in gear and then snapping forward would be a tranny/tc problem
