I have always thought that *ALL* 1994 Explorers came with the Dana35 axle up front. But on Rockauto.com, it lists the Dana28 and Dana35 for that year.
Is Rockauto correct? Or am I right saying all 94's have Dana35's?

It didn't look like it...the category was:
1994-->Ford--->Explorer--->Suspension---->Ball Joints

It had D35 *AND* D28 listed, I thought that was strange...

I'm 99% positive I have a D35, what's the easy way to tell?

I have noticed the same thing with some places that I have gone to for parts. I went to Champion Auto and told the guy -92 explorer, 4 wheel drive. And he asked "dana 28 or dana 35?" But that was right after I got the explorer so I didnt know that it had the 35, so I had to crawl under the stupid truck in the parking lot.lol.

To my knowledge all Explorers have had a Dana 35. I think some parts places, in an effort to get their computers to cross reference everything, have the Explorer lumped in with other Ranger based vehicles (like the Ranger and the BII) that also came with the D28. Just tell them you have the D35.

This has been my experience- the Ranger parts are listed along with the Ex parts.
The Explorer came with the Dana 35.

Thanks for the reassurance...I have thought they all had D35's for 5 years now, and all of the sudden I saw that D28 listed for the 1st gen, and I had to be 100% sure.

Maybe the D28 can use the same ball joints as the D35? Other than rockauto being wrong, that's the only logical reason I can think of.
