Hi, 18 months ago i got a custom exhaust system built by a local muffler shop. I supposedly got aluminized tubing and muffler. Now i take it to get inspected and it won't pass because its full of holes. I find this completely unacceptable since my dad and brother both have alumized tube exhaust systems they ordered online and have lasted 5 years so far. I called the muffler shop that installed it and they said that is normal to wear out that fast. I am extremely mad right now and trying to get a new exhaust system for free out of them... Am i overreacting and they truly only should last a year or so. Anyone with a similair system have any input.

Normal to rust thru after 18 months? Umm no, especially with aluminum tubing. If I were you, I would go down there and talk with them face to face. Tell them that you are not an idiot and you know that it isn't "normal."

Could be it rusted out- lots to consider - length of your trips, thickness of the tubing, where is the rust? At the welded joints- in the tubes or mufflers themselves? If the rust is in the bottom of the tube, and not all around, I would bet its driving habits- you make a trip towork of 2 miles, and a trip home of 2 miles the water will sit in the bottom of the tubes and or mufflers.
If you make short trips the condensation may not be burning off completely allowing water to stgand in the muffler or pipes. If they used a thin walled tube they could rust pretty quickly. You probably get a bit of salt on the roads in Pittsburg which wont help much.
If you want something that won't rust Stainless Steel is the only answer. You want it to last a while with aluminized steel then look for someone who uses 14ga material.
