I have a '95 four door 4x4 explorer XLT. I've started doing a few things to it to make it look better and just make it better all the way around, b/c after 100,000 miles of driving it, I am tired of it...so a few changes are in order. I've already done a few things:

took off the baby blue/purple pinstripe
painted the plastic trim black
painted the grill black
tinted the windows
added a bugsheild and vent visors
installed a CB

What other small and inexpensive things can I do to it? Anything is possible...

Well with those miles you shoudl start to focus on prevenative maintenece rather than cosmetics.

Flush and fill all fluids, tranny, cooling, t case, diff's.
Clean the full intake, MAS, TB, IAC,
wheel bearings, brake pads, rotors,
Full tune up: plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, etc..

Probably due for some new sway bar bushings and shocks as well.
Check out the condition of the brakes front and rear, adjust, etc.

A full visual and hands on shakedown of the undercarriage and drivetrain can be done for free! This can really get you a jump start on any potential problems..

Spend a little now or spend ALOT later. :)

Maybe upgrade your headlights with Silverstars (or something similar). If you have the stock fog lights, the lenses are probably pretty yellow. You could upgrade those to something like Hella's. You could shampoo the carpet, give it a thorough wash, wax, clay bar, and de-grease the engine.

I've already cleaned and detailed everything, as well as a tune up. The only thing left for maintenance is bushings to be replaced.

Are you planning to keep it at stock height? There are some things that looks good on lowered trucks and there are some for lifted trucks. Let us know which way you are leaning against and we could help you even more. When in doubt, just remove. Do not add. Less is more! :)

You could paint your bumpers, I painted both front and rear bumers black to match the grille and headlight bezels I painted black and it looks awesome. I like the look of it much more now, remember Chrome don't get ya home!

Another option is redoing your fenderwells by using spray on bedliner in there to make it a clean sleek black with a little texture to it, this would be a very cheap spruce up.
