View Full Version : Anyone here with a V8 AWD run 4.10's or 3.90's?

Because of my lack of low range and now running bigger tires my X struggles a bit on the trail and I'd like to get some more umph. Also the other thing is where I live and my daily commute is hilly and I don't use OD that much since the new tires because of the lack of gearing/power unless I'm on a flat freeway.

Anyone ever ran 4.10's on a V8 X? If so with 32's or 33's what was your RPM at 65-70mph in OD?

I can get FMS 4.10's for cheap and I know they'll drop in. But if its to much of a change I can always get some 3.90's but they're kinda pricy.

Stock I have 3.73's. I plan on also doing a no-slip powertrax in the rear.

Edit: I'm sick of having crappy gas MPG since I put the bigger tires on. I know by getting shorter gears I'd be much happier. Also I just did some additional searching and found I need 4.10's from a D35 Jeep axle for the front. Is this correct?

You cant get 3:90's for the front that i know of. 4:10's would be nice, 4:56's even better. I ran 4:56's with 33's in the past and it was really nice. Interstate cruising wasnt that bad as long as you stayed around 70mph.

yea I found that out after a little bit of research.

I'm going to plan on 4.10's I can get the rears for 50$ used from one of my mustang buddies and I guess I'll shop around to find some front gears for a D35 from a jeep (thats what I need right?)

James: how was the swap in the front? I know the rear is cake for me and I can do a ford 8.8 in about an 1.5-2 hours.

anyone else done a front gear swap in a AWD?The front differential is the same as the v6 4x4 models, so you don't have to direct your question specifically to v8 AWD models. That is if you are asking what ratios will fit and such.
I'm still running stock gears, so I can't help much beyond that.
