Rx4phun 06-18-2004, 11:43 AM I think you need another bar across the middle, just below the highest one
91nut 06-18-2004, 11:53 AM I just put a new bumper on my 91 XLT. It really depends on how strong or heavy you want it. I threw both my old bumpers out and custom made one for the rear and just put a 3x3 by 1/4" box tubing on the front. I had to grind down both sides of the frame a clean it like crazy to get a good weld on the frame. It works for what I need it for (to cover the bottom of my radiator when I'm going over rocks. Good luck, and get creative!
XplorerKid 06-18-2004, 12:02 PM Like this?
Also the other Tubing, Besides the Main 2" Tubes will be 3/4" DOM that has a 1" O/D...
XplorerKid 06-18-2004, 08:40 PM Not alot of comments.... Anyone want to design something for me? I already got the Tubing,,,, 21 foot stick of 2" DOM Pipe Spec, and unknown amount(alot, enough) of 3/4" DOM 1" OD.....
So anyone care to design soemthing? Im up for anything, Coem on!!! Id like to try and start on it this weekend..... if i can talk my Bro into it...

Looks Sweet! What are you using to bend it?
jasonb 06-23-2004, 02:01 PM i think he's using a tube bender. :D j/k man.. i had to.
XplorerKid 06-23-2004, 03:10 PM i think he's using a tube bender. :D j/k man.. i had to.
LOL, i was gunna say the same thing, actuall we found an old wheel(s) we have different sizes for different radius bends, like we got a 13" a 14" a 15" i think a 16" and we heat teh pipe up and take a BFH and bend it that way:smoke:
HE has a pipe bender he got off ebay, not anythign fancy its a cheap one, but hey it gets done what we need, we/i hope tp get one of the better ones oneday..... but this one gets by, its bent his frame for his Mini Chopper, it does the smaller pipe find, but the bigger stuff like the 2" Pipe we used it gets a little hateful but we got it done...
i think he's using a tube bender. :D j/k man.. i had to.
LOL i had that comin!
Josh S. 07-13-2004, 06:23 PM i like the look explorerkid...when are we gonna see updates?
XplorerKid 07-13-2004, 06:34 PM Well when i borrow my bros cam, since mien got stolen, here is one shot if it nearly complete its in the painting stages, jsut gotta wait to get more paint, which requires me dragging one of my parents to the store, Bloody peopel think im gunan huff the 5$ a can spray paint, if i wanted to huff spray paint id buy the cheap 99 cent cans....
I ended up goign with the prerunner look, But with a twist instead of how the prerunenrs point out towards the front this oen jsut goes straight up and down. I like it... Main reason for not makign it stick out.... Easier to work on the never ending always breakign motor. If it stuck out i would have to climb up on the bumper and be all unconfortable or lean over this tubing sticking way out...
410Fortune 07-13-2004, 06:35 PM OH man you should have put a reciever smack in the middle of those two tubes, unless you are planning to mount a winch tray.
I think Duff has a GREAT design for their bumpers, copy that :)
I couldnt be happier with the looks and strength of my Duff bumpers! and the price holy moley I got both for under $400 shipped to me, but that was when they first came out, now they are double that I think...
EDIT: Sorry I posted before I saw page two...looking good!!!
Different for sure!
Oh and Clint built a pretty good bumper for his Navajo, HVAC man...
Now that you have one under your belt, the sky is the limit :)
XplorerKid 07-13-2004, 06:53 PM Well i have been thinking of a way to mount a Winch, i Cant afford one right now unless i find a GREAT deal on one, but i have the design in my head, and it requires some chopping of the front end, IE: Grill the filelr panel below it, But i dont care if i have to chop the body any more..... Im jsut stuck, Roller or the one thats not a ROller(forgot the name) seems to be like Hawse or soemtihng....
And this bumper is incredibily Strong....
AspenX 07-13-2004, 08:48 PM I like, looks good Kid.
BUCHVILLEMAN 07-15-2004, 10:36 AM Looks great man!
Im jsut stuck, Roller or the one thats not a ROller(forgot the name) seems to be like Hawse or soemtihng....

XplorerKid 07-15-2004, 11:54 AM Looks great man!

BUCHVILLEMAN 07-15-2004, 12:06 PM looks good man. you gonna put hooks or d-rings? can see some big ole daylighters on there too! you painting silver?
very good job :chug:
XplorerKid 07-15-2004, 03:37 PM Was gunan put d-rings on, but decided not to, i alrteady have two hooks, its got 4 light tabs, and i already have 2 lights, not daylighters, but hella 500's, ill upgrade to Daylighters later.....
and its painted the same as my grill, black with mettalic....
later

Wow! Looks really good kid.
rino351 07-20-2004, 03:56 PM Very Nice!!
:bounce:
Josh S. 07-20-2004, 05:59 PM Dang dude good job you and yer bro did! With that 2" DOM you could smash the hell outta any deer or alligator that got in your way lol!!
XplorerKid 07-20-2004, 06:54 PM Need yalls opion...... Im thinking of removing the red bar(see picture belowe) i think its some filler plate. Does it have any thig nto do with strucure? i know its bolts to both fenders. Thinkinf of removing it and moving the Bumper up higher. But one of my concerns is the Top hoop(the yellow box) i dont want it to be to high. Do yall think i should jsut leave it like it is. Or Riase it up? I guess if i dont like it, i could always Lower it back, but thats alot of work for sormtihng, if yall could jsut tell me now wether yall think it would look good or like crap :p
Josh S. 07-20-2004, 09:04 PM First of all, why do you want to remove it? Do you want to take it off even if you don't move the bumper up? It aint structural man. 1 bolt on each fender, and one in the middle bolted to the core support(i think). Once I get some time from all the other crap I have to do on the rig, I will take it off. Mine is rattling like all hell cuz the only bolt holding it on is the middle one, due to me puttin on the glass fenders.
take it off if you don't like it, but I think the bumper is cool like it is, and will protect your rig better offroad and also on the road. The more you move it up the better your approach angle will be, as long as nuthin else is in the way, so keep that in mind.
Josh S. 07-20-2004, 09:05 PM oh and also it might make it hard to access your hood latch if that top bar is moved up, its hard to tell from the pics
XplorerKid 07-20-2004, 11:47 PM Thanks for the opion Josh, the hatch is fine, the middle of the bar, is in the middle of the Ford emblem the way it is mounted now...... Reason why? My bro designed it that way  he hates ford, so he wanted it to block of the ford emblem, lol
Ill most likely Move the bumper up, i was asking botu take that filler plate off becuase with it on there it will interfere if i try and raise it.....
-Caleb
BUCHVILLEMAN 07-21-2004, 08:05 AM leave well and well enough alone and move onto the next project! it looks perfect where you have it. it might look too high if you move it up any more.
V8BoatBuilder 08-06-2004, 09:37 PM Just noticed this thread - the bumper is AWESOME.
D-rings would make like look even cooler, and a front receiver would also be a good mod.
No dissin Hella 500s - they're kick a$$ lights!!
Josh S. 08-09-2004, 09:21 PM did you cap the ends?
XplorerKid 08-09-2004, 09:44 PM did you cap the ends?
Yep the ends, have welded on caps, It was welded, than ground down to make it look all one peice...
My sister in law never sent me the rest of the pictures, becuase they have 56k and the files were to large, next time im over there, ill try and get them uploaded.....
Felix 08-12-2004, 11:46 AM The bumper looks good, 2" tube yea I would say that things is hela-strong. :chug:
Also, That looks like a Corvare (SP) sittin behind the explorer in that pic. Nice cars but you dont see many of them on the road anymore.
