I'm trying to replace the fuel filter on my wife's 2002 explorer, but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone help? It's a 4.0 v6.

Filter on most Fords are usually somewhere on the drivers side frame rail.

That's where it is on my '97 f150, but I've checked both side rails and it is not there. I've Ialso tried following the fuel line ex-the tank and can't find it.

On the 3rd generation X the fuel filter is located on the passenger frame rail. If you crawl under the passenger side, right beind the front tire and look at how the frame rail kicks out to the outside of the body you'll see a small shield between the rail and the gas tank. The filter is above the shield. It is a P.I.T.A. to replace.

Exactly why I have not touched mine, why bother replacing it if it works fine and Ford says its good for life.
