Does the 2002 Explorer XLS come with the LATCH System(Child Seat Restraint System)???
My Wife is going away with the kids this weekend, and I have to show her how to swap the car seats, but I do not know if the Explorer has the LATCH System or not. And the Owner is not sure what the LATCH Sytem is, even after explaining it to her! So I am asking you guys.............
The Explorer is a US Explorer. I think I read that Canadaian Explorers came with it but nuttin said that US Explorers did.

Don't know about the latch system. But if you use the seatbelts make sure to pull them all the way out and let them ratchet back in to lock the seat in place. This saves the need of using that little belt locking clip thingy that comes with baby seats. Also, don't forget to put your weight onto the baby seat to get the seatbelt or latch strap as tight as possible.

Yes. Every model Explorer has it.
NOT every model has it, do you mean every 2003 Model year Explorers?

It should. I had a 2002 brochure and it said all models have it.

well I just went out and double checked and there is no place for a LATCH system on either side of the rear seat.. I own a 2002 Explorer XLS Sport and can attest to the fact that there is none. I took pics if you need to see them..
Now they might have added them to the XLT models and above but the XLS does not include them. Just like I don't have a 3rd row seat..

I believe LATCH was optional on vehicles between 2000-2002 and made mandatory for any vehicle produced from 2003 on.
Anyway, I've found the X is very easy to install car seats in. I can get the seat installed much tighter than in any car I've tried.

Or you can take it to the dealer and install it for free. I remember hearing that the government mandated that these items should be free including labor for any models.
