I see a bunch of you on the road and have met some via e-mail and phone. I just want to put this out to anybody who might want to get together to do some wheelin or even meet and greet. 2 wheel drive friends welcome to. I have talked to a few of you on other threads and I thought I would consolodate to a specific thread. We may be able to help each other out in our Explorer needs as well. So what do you guys say? :chug:

I am here. Last week I started a tread, I heard that Slades park in Surry was open for wheeling. I have not confirmed the rumor, yet. If in fact it is open it would be a great place for a meet and greet.

Yea, I used to ride out there a lot when I had my dirt bike. The only bad thing is all the 2 wheeled traffic on the weekends. My truck had a very tramatic experience out there as well that required a tractor and 50 bucks. I want to go out to GWNF or some place cool to do some real wheelin and maybe some camping. I am out of town for a little while and I know another guy that is coming back soon. I have seen a bunch of lifted X's around here so maybe more people will follow.

Well, not the true VA, but the real one of the 2, WVA. haha

I'd like to meet up sometime for some wheeling. I've been to GWNF once, but it wasn't that tough. I was on 31's with a locker at the time and it was snowing. Are there harder trails there.

Hokie

I'll be back in VA (Charlottesville and Blacksburg) in 2 weeks and ready to hit the mountains... been living in the SC Lowcountry for 7 months now

Well, not the true VA, but the real one of the 2, WVA. haha
There is a reason that VA gave that place away. :p

I can do whatever I can to help you guys out for planning and such, but my truck is on hold for at least another year.

I know there is a public trail down at Potts Mtn (Craig County), but last I heard it was closed for cleaning. I haven't heard if has re-opened or not, I will look into it. I also here some rumors about some trails in Crozet, and I know that there is a comp there, but from the information I have, it is all private.

We need to find a hookup somewhere along I-81 that knows the area. Lord knows that there has to be a thousand good spots along the mountains, but I never hear about them as east as I am.

Shoe Creek is a great run (and Big Level's when its open)

I did this run with the NOVAJeepers (http://4x4icon.com/offroad/111503_big_levels_shoe_creek/index.htm)

Shoe Creek is accessible from exit 205 on I-81 (Raphine/Steele's Tavern) You take 56 E over the mountain (and parkway) and back down. Turn R past the fish hatchery and climb up the dirt road, until you hit the Crabtree Meadows parking lot (Crabtree Falls is about 1.5 miles down the path and has gorgeous views ~ falls go for over 1000 feet) You can also come from 250 W, to 151 S (like your heading to Wintergeen) and then take 56 W and turn Left before the fish hatchery

But yeah, there are a TON of places to wheel along 81, I usually just grab a Atlas and Gazetteer map and start looking for 4x4 trails. Thats how i found all the trails near blacksburg

Another Shoe Creek and surround trails right up (http://4x4icon.com/offroad/potts_jeep_road_082303/index.htm)

Almost everything I have seen in the GWNF is not to difficult. The trails are still fun. I have been around RT 60 and RT250, and RT 33 as they pass through GWNF. The best and most popular trails are around RT 33. The best place (popular) to camp is Crabtree, the best (solitary) are the areas around Reddish Knob. There are lots of other placed that I haven't been.

Well great to see all the locals, even if your from WV. LOL! I'm in Washington state now until August 21st. But at least we have a place to go to get a hold of everyone. I've been wanting to go up by grab tree falls but never worked out. Anything is better than VA Beach.

I propose that the Virginia Explorers make a run to the GWNF on Saturday September 18, 2004. I suggest the trails around the Route 33 (Harrisonburg). There are many good trails in the area. The JMU contingent seems to be prety consistent about getting some vehicles on the trails. It is also a pretty central location DC, Richmond, West Virginia. It has been almost a year since we had a run, I think is is time for us to get off our asses and get into the woods.

Oooooooh how I hate WVU (and Marshall)...

Why does the state of WVa have the most rowdy, honry, disrespectful fans in the nation?

We have never made it back from a game in WVa (Morgantown, Huntington, etc) with out car getting keyed/egged or getting beer thrown/poured on us

JoshC

I don't know but please don't hold that against me! LOL

I don't even follow WV sports. I went to Marshall and I HATE their football team. They walk around campus thinking they are big and bad, but we have to remind them they are in the MAC!

Sept. 11th I actually think I'll be in Clemson for the Clemson/Ga Tech game (I can't believe I'm giving up a VT game for that... oh well, it'll make the lil lady happy...)

We seriously need to get something planned though. Last time it got pushed back till November and then no one could make it

Yeah...

Actually, I'll be running Shoe Creek Wednesday August 11th and camping near crabtree that night

But here are the weekends I can work with:

Sept 3-5
October 8-10
October 22-24
October 29-31
November 5-7
November 12-14
November 19-21
December 17-23 (christmas break)

Ok... more specifically ~ coordinating my schedule with the gf's schedule (i forsee a few road trips to Clemson this fall) here are the weekends I propose we look at for a little camping and 4x4 action.

since you wanna do GWNF, we can camp either on the Kephart trail or ontop of Reddish Knob (preferably Reddish Knob)

Sat/Sun: Sept 4-5

Sat/Sun: Oct 8-9

Sat/Sun: Oct 30-31

Sat/Sun: Nov 13-14

I'm also ready for some wheelin. I bought a 2000 F250 PSD that will be at my house next week and i've also bought me a tralier to haul my baby around on, so i'm ready to roll man! I heard that someone bought boyer woods and they've closed it down and logged it all. Any truth to that?? I hope not, man i grew up in those mud holes, haha. But i'll go anytime when i get home. Big Levels/Shoe Creek, GWNF.. it no matter. Where do you go in Chesapeake? I have been to most places and they are off limits now. At least thats what the judge told me anyway. There is a place down near Elizebeth City, but its small. Where in VA Beach do you live? dgibson is not to far from me either I think. I live near the courthouse off Northlanding.

Somebody pick a date to go. later in September early October would be better. I go to the Gulf for 3 weeks in November.

if u take the turn off to the right before u get down to where u can get to the lake, there aren't any no trespassing signs. those are all down by the entrance to the power line.

I took those tires off, and now i am running 35x14.50 boggers

Thought I may put some input in here.
I would rethink heading to GW near Harrisonburg, seems Kephart trail is closed, or at least the last few hundred yards, and thats the only challenge on the trail. The closing of old Long run last year made Kephart one of two remaining trails, Reddish Knob is still around, but not that difficult. The Dry River trails are hardly worth the trouble, and they are getting more and more tornup(bypasses around mud holes, people heading into and out of the holes from various directions) making the closure likely by the city of Harrisonburg at some point. Hardly makes it worth the drive for me at least.

You can have some fun but if you are looking to be challenged most likely you wont.

Pay to play (Crozet,Paragon,RaushCreek)on private land here on the east coast is the only real alternative as more and more public trails are closed funneling more and more traffic on the ones left, giving the FS and other bodies good reasons to close them. Sucks. Seems like its hard to get this turned around. Idiots who dont stay on the trails, throw their beer cans around, and disregard and tear down the signs dont help out at all.

The private land out in Crozet may be a better choice, havent been, but the reports back sound good to great. It aslo may be closer for most of you.

Yeah, the dry run (or is it Kephardt?) trail is fun if you want to do some over night camping, but only challenging if you do the spur and try to run up the waterfalls off the trail, which I've never done. (illegal) I did come close to rolling my truck on the drop that leads into the spur

Well according to a report from someone on the GWNF board, the Forest Service has bermed and blocked the both the spur and a couple hundred yards before the waterfall at the end of Kephart. Pushed by the damage from the illegal hill climbs and the increased traffic on the trail I believe.

Been going out to Tuskers Gap in the GWNF. It has a lot for more ATV's, but there is a OHV trail just for trucks. It has lots of rocky areas and tight squeezes. but it is a pretty fun trek, took the H2 there and if that beast can fit around in it then the explorers would even better since they are not that big. If any of y'all want to go out there, its a good time, no mud, but some pretty fierce hills.

let me know, i try and get out there at least once a month, theres lots of camping around the area too.

Yeah, holding the #1 team in the nation to a modest win (which was only decided in the last 5 min) after being up at half time (in a game NO ONE expected the young VT team to even show up to)... yeah, i guess you can call that a whipping. Actually, if you want to talk ass whoopin's, lets see what happens when Morgantown tries to bring its sh!t to blacksburg this year. Man I can't wait to not have to play WV teams any more ;) Once again, the state of Virginia has seen the light and is pushing away our western neighbor, leaving them high and dry with no identity (or in this case, the Big Least) :p

So where is Tuskers gap?

Tuskers gap is over by Edenburg North of Staunton. I have rode my dirtbike up there a couple of times. I got a real bad case of monkey butt from all the rocks. Not a fun place on a dirtbike. They have a place there called the rock garden, but, I don't know if it is open to 4 wheel drives. I had to get off my bike and walk it over the rocks. It took me 5 hours pulling a trailer from VA Beach.

Looks about 40 miles North. Once you get to Edinburg you will head into the mountains from there, about another 30 minutes or so.

Brea

All I know is it is about 40 min from herndon, the way I drive i guess. But there trail open to 4wd trucks is pretty cool, lots of ruts, rocks and hills. you can hit tuskers gap on exit 279 on I-81. there is a place to park your trailers if you bring ATV's and such, and then you can just disconnect the trailer if you want to take the trucks on the trails, its fun, i have a hoot everytime i go.

Yeah, we went out in Georgetown the night before the USC game.. my Lord that put a hurtin' on my wallet. I miss Bladderbusters in Charleston, SC. You pay a $4 cover, and its gratis all you can drink light beers until the first person in the bar goes to the bathroom. Then its $1 bud lights after that.

Steve,
What is the name of the place in Grozet? Do you know how to contact them? Paragon and Roush creek are so far away. I want to go some place that requires a little thought, not just mud boggin.

Josh, dont know the name, a couple who belong to OCC run it. Ill check on the contact info. They are just starting up, reservations only I believe. I was going to go down last week, but family plans got in the way. It is on my list of places to go.
Im heading up to Rausch creek this weekend with OCC- just for the day, but tons of guys go up friday and leave sunday. So the longer drive isnt too bad, actually i think someone from VA beach is heading up. FWIW. Im told its 2+hours from my house, and 2 1/2+ hours from DC beltway.

Hokie: Their used to be a place across from George Mason U. called Fat Tuesday's that did something similar. Only on Thursday's though. I think they still have dollar bottles until 7 though. Which is rare to come by around here...

Hey for all y'all who live around hampton roads area, i used to be a member of an off road chapter there, and there is some really cool people, and some not so cool, but either way, a lot of pep's to go Mud guppin with and such. its at offroadworld.net and go to the virginia chapter. its pretty cool, and they know a few areas down there to tear up the mud. I heard they opened the amphetheater up again so that could be cool.

so we are gonna do a trip in Nov. out to go have fun right? it would sooo kick a55.

Josh, I heard it was not blocked off any longer, and that you could get into there with your trucks, now it is probably still not so legal, as it was before you got tickets, but it was accessable again.

Have you checked out the old haunted forest on military and battlefield? its right off of battlefield, right after the tire merchants on the right (when going north) theres a drive way into it, kinda dangerous to drive into it in the middle of the day, but its cool. They also have the area off of shore drive open. I dont know exactly how to get to it, but i can find out.

Not yet, I do know OCC is headed there on the weekend of 10/2, I dont know the details yet but may try and go for one day depending on my sons soccer schedule. Ill try and get some info later this week.

I wanted to add, I was up to Rausch Creek this weekend, and it is a great place. Trails - green blue, black and red, so something for everyone. Not a day trip for you VA guys but would definitely be a good weekend trip.

sorry, i didnt mean any harm. i wasnt thinking about promoting bad stuff, just thaught i would share some places i have been, sorry though.

Canal drive is your best bet for legal stuff. The owner has given every one a verbal okay, and the police know it, he just wont write the approval up for liability.

Well I have done the illegal thing in the past. I have also been in front of 2 judges in two different cities. I do not trasspass any more. I have seen the fuzz sitting at the end of a trail across from the VA Beach sports complex near the VBAT waiting for people to come out. Yea it sucks having to drive 4 hours or more to go wheelin but it beats a class 1 mistermener which was max fine of 1000 and 1 year in jail. One of the judges said if he ever saw me again I was going to jail. That was enough for me.

Carl something (dont remember his last name) He owns the ice cream shop at the top of canal, (if you get on canal from military and go north for about 1/2 mile, you either have to turn left or right, and the shop is on the left far corner). anyways, he is very nice and has helped me out a bunch when i would get stuck there, he has a tractor and lots of tow ropes hahaha. Any ways, he told us that we are free to go back and tear up the mud, but just dont ruin the main dirt road in and the dock area by the canal. And Police have showed up plenty of times, and they dont like us back there cause some stupid people go off by the powerlines (which is a BIG fine) but as for the main area, they cant do a damn thing and they know it cause Carl has told them. And he is out there a lot, he drives a huge red F350 Duelly, he sits by the canal a lot, and watches us get stuck for amusement i guess.

Are you talking right there were canal meets GW highway? Is it a big area? Or just a couple of mud holes?

Brea
09-08-2004, 07:42 PM
Where his ice cream shop is yes, sorry i forgot the name of that road but it is GWHwy. Any who, Where canal is located, if you take a right on to canal from military (or left depending dir.) the first right which is BroadMoore, head down it and stay to the right cause it splits and follow it back till you see a dirt road on the right (if you go straight you wll head to the powerlines). and its right there. And it is a pretty big area. There is car pieces in the deep holes so feel it all out with a stick prior to going thru, I split my tire on several mufflers there, but most everyone who goes there is good about if they see stuff they pick it up and throw it into the forest. It can get pretty dry, but when its wet its hella fun. And especially the little circle on the right side of the field, its real deep back there and fun, Got an H2 stuck there and no one could pull it out. hahah.

Hey guys!

I've been promising JoshC and Yob Yeknom for years that I would try to get down that way for a run, but I haven't seen anything really worthwhile yet (pardon my ignorance if I missed something). I'm about 3 hours from Richmond, and 5 from Roanoke (My limit on driving time to a run is 4 hours with an overnight stay). Blee1099 drives to DC every day for work, I'm sure he wouldn't mind coming down to get in some wheelin too....

If y'all have a run within 4 hours of me I can try to make it, although I'd have to hitch a ride with someone- Tank's still not legal and even if he was, I wouldn't trust the old fart to make such a long trip in one piece.

So what's going on with this? You guys have a date and a place yet? I'm too lazy to backtrack through 5 pages of BSing

Steve,

We are open for guided trail rides. We need to have about 4 or 5 rigs
minimum and say 10 max. We charge 30.00 per weekend with primitive camping
available (Friday night, Saturday night camping and showers are available),
and 20.00 per day. We require a few days notice. Our trails are rated
Blue, Black, and Red. Let me know if you have any questions.

Last I knew out by Leesburg was a place that you could go fourwheeling at and as long as you were out by dark the cops pretty much looked the other way (aka not illegal as long as you followed the BIG giant rules sign there). The last time I was there there was a white f250 that was pretty much impossibly stuck (minus three other trucks and possibly a wrecker to get him out) Picture an upside down 7 with the top part being the ground and the angle being the truck. Literally the rear wheels were about 5 feet off the ground and it was there for about 3 weeks before one day it mysteriously vanished. The lake is Fairfax Citys reservoir BUT the land is in Loudon county/city of leesburg. I used to go up there routinely throughout the summer to go swimming in the reservoir but it got gated when 6 people drowned at once (idiotic woman that cant swim with 5 kids hanging on her on a rock in neck deep water) but there are trails out there last I checked that werent gated, blocked or Bouldered over. If anyone is interested Id be more then willing to check and see if it is still passable out there at some point.

I can try to get in touch with a few friends to see if they know of any other areas in the Northern Va area that are open or non illegal to offroad at.

/wont get to go fourwheeling due to stock height with broken 4x4 'ho

Which is better, Being able to go places without having to pay tickets, get your truck outta impound etc or getting a ticket for trespassing plus having to do the previously mentioned in addition to having to pay off a bunch of tickets for ANYTHING that is mildy illegal on your truck?

I see your point but at the same time I have been present when the cops have blocked and waited for mudders, trepsassers and street racers to try to leave (different places different times) Be a hard ass all you want but the cost outweighs the benefits after a time.

your call and your choice but me Id rather have limited options and NO tickets rather then do what I want and have to pay the state even more $$ then I already have.

We used to ride out in P town at this place called Craddock AKA the Mud Flats. The police used to come out and watch us ride our dirtbikes all the time for about 4 years. Then one day out of the blue, They started writing tickets. Because of what I do, I cant afford to have encounters with the law. It could cost me my job and I like the whole roof over my head thing, but, if you can get away with it and have fun, more power to ya. Besides, if I'm lucky, I'll get a job offer from Colorado soon and I'm gone! I cant stand the East coast, no offense to those that do;)

Brian,

I am in. I have a few weekends that I can't go, but if I am available I'm ready. Do you think we should do the GWNF? It would be nice to go before hunting season opens.

To the other outlaw wheelers, if you have not been to the GWNF to wheel then you need to. Its completly legal if you simply tread lightly. Spectacular views, rough camping, a little mud (enough to stick your truck), and some rock crawling really beats Va beach mud. So lets get a run together.

thanks

You missed a good time Saturday. We didn't get pulled by the cops, but Travis blew his radiator. PM me your email and i'll send you the few pics that me and my wife took.

Is anybody looking for a 4.0 to rebuild or play with? I have the old motor out of my truck in my garage. It has about 220K on it but it ran fine when I pulled it. I just want it out of my garage. It is the long block only all sensors, accesories, and fuel injectors are on the new motor. I would be willing to deliver or meet with in a 100 mile radius for gas money. I also have a front pumpkin with 3.55 gears all out of my 91.

Where is Crozet at? I may be insterested in something if it has some challenging trails.

unclemeat
02-08-2005, 06:16 AM
It is just west of Charlotesville. I got and email from the owner, they said they have three levels of trails. I have not called them back yet. I get the impression that the park has lots of rock crawl terrain and most of the trails are at least moderately difficult. They have a web site xjsrule.com. I have no idea what to expect, but for $20 for the day$30 for the weekend I am very intersted. I believe that they host Mountain jam rock crawl competition.

If you go to Crozet...from what I've heard...don't take anyone stock...and plan on taking the low levels even with 31s or 33s

The Maryland Creepers are planning a run to Crozet in April...If my Runner is finished by the time yall go I might come down with ya....(be nice to get a knowledge of the place lol)

unclemeat
02-24-2005, 06:09 AM
I understand, if I break somthing important it is motivation for me to upgrade and modify. Plus Crozet is less than 90-minutes from home.

If we can get a group together the easiest trails would most likely be the objective. That should attract more intrest, and break the least equipment.

The first or second weekend in MAR sounds great. The weekend of the 19th is a trail ride at RAUSCH CREEK to the North and VMP mud bog to the south near Petersburg. Let me know if you end up planning the CROZET trip on the first or second weekend.

Is there anyone in the Va Beach/Chesapeake area that would want to get together around town or know of any place around HR to go wheeling?

Just got my lift...'94 X, 4" superlift, 32x11.5 BFG AT (VERY PLEASED WITH THE LIFT I MIGHT ADD, good job Pungo Off Road!), Flowmaster Catback, pace setter headers, KKM intake, all kenwood sound system

Josh
02-25-2005, 07:48 AM
So you went to pung huh? They did mine as well. I asked for a 4" and got 4 in the back and 5.5 in the front. They also promised me a couple of days, which turned into a week. I think if I wouldnt have bothered them so much, they would have taken 2 weeks. And then after being 5 days late, The owner told me to bring the beer. :fire: The only good thing was the price.

Foggman
02-26-2005, 09:44 AM
Wow, I didn't have any problems...mine was a day late they said because the springs for the rear weren't in. Other that that I got mine the day after I dropped it off. Have you had any problems with your lift other than the difference in height??

Josh
02-26-2005, 10:48 PM
No except they said they would relocate the front brakelines but all they did was take the retaining nut off where the hard line is secured to the spring bucket and pull it through. I have talked to others that have had some half ass work done from them. Never again. Now that I look back on it, I could have done it myself. The rear could be done in hour or two. The front I'm guesing would be 6 to 8 because you would have to grind off a bunch of rivets. Oh well live and learn.

Depends on what you are looking for. The club that I am in goes a couple times a month. Right now, they are down in NC doing a little offroading for the weekend. 664 off of Portsmouth Blvd has a decent little spot if you are wanting to just throw some mud.

I want $4K for it but i might come down a little. I just put another transfer case in it plus I still have the other one sitting there. I have done a LOT of mods to this x so it will really is an awesome ride.

Well, DominicanX, Boomin and I met up at the wheelin' spot across from the farmers market today, It was good times, real sloppy 'cause of the rain. Unfortunately I had to take off earlier than I wanted to 'cause my left rear tire got a puncture on the inside wall :(

Sorry I had to take off guys, my wife wants to go next time. I'm free most afternoons and next weekend if you guys are interested. Tomarrow though I will probably be repacking bearings and greasing the front end, changing oil and all that good stuff.
Btw, good meetin you guys

Yes right across from the farmers market. Coming down princess anne toward the courthouse turn left on damneck and its an opening in the trees with an enterance about a 1/4 mile down on the right. Just stay to the left side at the beginning, ruts are kind of deep

I'll probably be able to make it Sunday, though not until a little after noon.. probably closer to 1:30.

Chris, I'll def. be there on Sunday, and Josh I'm down for a GWNF run in April (assuming I won't be out of town...supposedly I have to go out of town for work either the whole month of Apr. or May)

Oh and We don't have "permission" but I have never had any problems going in or out of there with the law even while they drove past as I was coming out (bad timing). SOmeone on here said it was private...I thought is was city property cause of the power line but I dunno...I guess it's enter at your own risk.

Foggman
02-18-2006, 03:10 PM
Sounds good, yeah the place on Dam neck. If you are going down Princess Anne like you're going to the court house, take a left on to Dam Neck and just as you pass the Farmers market (on the left) you will see a few little driveway cut outs in the curb (with no drive ways behind them)...just turn in to the one with a bunch of muddy tire tracks leading out of it. I will probably try to be out there by around 1 and my Brother in law with his stock jeep and possibly a buddy with a stock ranger.

I live right around the corner from there (right behind the 7-11 on P.A.) so if anyone wants to meet up at my place or the farmers market just let me know 761-6576.

Within 2 months. Trailmaster 4'', perrys 3'' glass fenders, 35'' X-terrains, 4:10s

I am still tracking down a 4406 manual with all the linkage now. I can't find one anywhere and I WILL make it fit without changing the gas tank.

By the summer the front and rear should be locked

If you would have said something sooner I would have let you use mine. Only problem is your truck won't fit in most garages. Maybe if you flatten your tires or have a spare set of pizza cutters you can throw on.

boominXplorer

actually I have found I can fit in almost every garage. I just can't hit the brakes hard then going in. My roof rack comes about 1/2'' from the top of most.

Here is a link to a sight that has both the receiver and the monut.

you should call around and see if eta or pungo has them but it will probably be just as cheap to order them off that site

Josh
05-14-2006, 07:16 AM
To me ETA is a rip off mail order showroom. They do the same thing you would do on the internet. I would love to have someone say yea we have that in stock, but not here. As for Pungo, They gave me a good price on my lift but, when I ordered it(4 in Superlift), I got 4 in the rear and 5.5 in the front. Portsmouth trailer wanted 145 just for the receiver and they had to order it of course. The second link I posted wanted 109 and they were offering 99 cent shipping on 150 or more purchases. So I could order the receiver and the mount for about 180 Ithink.

So who is doing the 10th Ann run in Crozet and where are you coming from? Just thought that we could meet up and head out together. I was thinking about camping out there some where and I want to wheel both days Maybe head up Friday afternoon or something. Some people have talked about a camp ground not to far away. The link is below. I guess there is camping onsite as well.

My fiancee and I are going and camping... don't know where yet. Hopefully we'll be able to get out Friday night and stay until Sunday.
We were planning to camp at the on-site Farm Field since we ASS-U-MEd that everyone else that was camping would be there.

...and that's all I have to say about that!

I'm camping at Misty Mountain. I've spoken with people who have wheeled at Crozet for the VROC (Va Rockcrawling & offroad championship) and they all praised Misty Mountain. The on-site at Crozet is very primitive vs Misty Mountain which isn't very far about 6-7 miles. I'm gonna be there Friday since I'm gonna meet Chris the day prior to make sure everything is ready not to mention to drink :D

Who from the city gave permission to go out there? Who will be the point of contact if VBPD decides to start writing tickets? I have been busted in he past and I cant have that kind of stuff popping up during a background investigation which my job requires. Thats why I havent gone out there. Ive tried the he said she said and I got 1 year probation and 250.00 suspended the first time. Second time got thown out, but the judge said if he ever saw me again, I was going to jail.

Josh
05-29-2006, 11:06 PM
Thanks. I live over buy the VA Beach courthouse. I think for what I have in mind would only take an hour. The brushguard brackets are the same width as the front receiver. So I thought to just cut them off and weld a plate to the outer side of the brushguard on one end then weld the other end to the outer edge of the receiver frame. Or just weld the back edge of the brushguard to the front edge of the receiver. Hell I don't even need to weld it I guess. I could just cut the mounts off of the brushguard and use 4 bolts and a plate on each side and just bolt it on.

I could take a bone stock any thing 4x4 and watch at 95% of the places. the trails are semi smooth between holes and the hills. most all of the rough stuff has a bi-pass. you can make it what you want it to be. we will steer him the best way so he will enjoy his trip.

cell service is very spotty, some servers have 0 service there. write this down just in case you get that far and can not get up with anyone, main street altavista (29 business) from the north take first altavista exit left turn at top of ramp when you see fellers chevrolet make a left onto Pittsylvania ave. from the south take 1st altavista exit, top of ramp make a right, 2 miles you'll come to a tee (@ mc donalds) make a left onto main st (29 business) just past the car wash left onto Pittsylvania ave. once your on pitts. ave go 4-5 miles make a left (there will be a long sweeping right turn grave yard to the right next left) onto level run road, ago 4-5 miles there will be two churches after you pass the second church you will make the next left (1/2 mile past second church) moons rd. 2-3 miles you will see yellow poles with a cable strung threw them to your left you have made it. note there is normally a cable across the entrance to the field if you are planning to come early you will need to get up with someone for a key to the gate. do not hit any trails without a guide (there are places that look easier than they are). we will have a meeting to make sure everyone knows the rules, members and nonmembers alike. we want to make sure that everyone the comes to join us have a great time, recieves what that come to get, and will leave with the intension to return and join us again. P.S. we will eat first and then hit the trails. fresh fried chicken and fixins, burgers, and dogs will be served only $5 per person all you can eat or until its gone witch ever comes first. $5 for all drivers, ride and watch for free.

My truck is in need of a tranny rebuild and I have a short in my harness. I blew one of the big 60 amp fuses in the engine compartment the other day over by TCC. It killed the entire ignician system. I used a jumper wire and trid to restart my truck to get it home and smoke came out of the engine compartment  I wiggled the wires around and was able to get it home. SOOO, I have a nasty short in it. I need to go over to U-pull-it and get another tranny to rebuild.

Im going solid probibly this winter. I get a daily driver this week :D. First time out with true 4wd and I snapped an inner tie rod.

Recently I have beening going to a place called Hope Haven to play. Its kinda by North Landing. Its not posted or anything but there isn't TOO much to do like damneck.

Alright you hooligans stay out of my backyard! :p: I have seen a fullsize bronco up to its doors back there when they first put it in. My neighborhood is on the other side of the trees(Courthouse Woods). Still wondering what they are building.

I too am thinking about solid axle as the TTB is worthless on the rocks. We can get an entire front axle front U-pull-it for probably 150. They quoted me 124 for a rear 8.8 with discs and brake hardware included. I just need someone to weld. My best friend is a boilermaker but he lives in Washington state. I would be willing to help someone in return for a little help with mine. We could have an SAS marothon weekend. I will most likely use a dana 30 unless I can find a 44 the same width as our trucks. The one thing that sucks is I will have to get another locker, unless someone knows of a dana 35 solid front which I dont think they made.

I know a few welders, most of which live in NN. My b-in-law welds, but he is in the middle of moving, travis does also, i might be able to talk him into it. He just built the hell out of an older s-10

I'm up for doing a sas marathon. I don't have the know how to do it all. I'm mechanically inclined, just don't have the experience. If you've got a welder, I'm definitely in.

we should all go wheel at that place chris is talking about soon. is that all we have left thats legal around here?

it will be a long time before i can go solid axle. but im saving for a body lift, 33's, gears, bumpers, and sliders hopefully to be done by next spring.

I would get an Aussie locker first. That has been the best wheelin mod I have ever done. My truck sucked with open front and rear. I added an LS a while ago and last may I threw in an Aussie locker. I still have an Xterra supercharger sitting in my garage but I know if I put it on my tranny will grenade :(

Yeah its across the road from Vo-tech. Down the hope haven rd. about 1/4 mile on the left. I might be going out there monday afternoon but I'll let you guys know for sure. It will be gooey.

I'm im working on getting a welder now and saving for a plasma cutter. I could then whore my self out to make all of our trucks solid.

Was thinking about it but not sure. I have a brand new SC, vacum/boost gauge, FMU, and some homemade plates that need finishing. I also have photo copies from a finishe system that are fullsize so I can't imagine it would take much to finish. I just don't know if I'm ready to part with it.

Me pete and a buddy of mine dave with a Jeep wagonner on 42s were out at hope haven tonight, even pete made it though most of it.

Pete man that other trail we went to past battlefield blvd on kempsville was crazy. You HAVE to have 35s at least to get through there. I got stuck on my way in, I didn't have a tire on the ground. Everything else was big ruts and hills. Locker in the front almost neccisary as I almost got stuck about 4 times.

pete99ex
10-16-2006, 12:09 PM

I don't think I'll go to the battlefield till I'm soild on 37s at least. The wagoneer was on 42s and he was draggin diffs in spots, the same spots I had to go through :(

10-17-2006, 02:01 PM
this place you guy's are talking about would it be worth riding from altavista va for, I have a little 88 ranger that likes to climb slick hills. are there any hills. I may try a mud hole or two as long as I'm not up in the engine compartment. also is this place legal.

Josh
10-17-2006, 02:31 PM
I don't think there are any places in this area that are legal or have given permission to people to use. All places around here are iffy at best. I used to ride at this one place over in Portsmouth for years, hell the cops used to sit out there and watch us ride. Then one day they just start handing out tickets.

Well. i havent been on in a few days, but the steering issue is this: It turns good till about half way, then it feels kinda stuck, then turns the rest of the way. It is the same back to center, and tonight it even felt alittle sticky, like the power was going out. And, im starting to get a bad wobble again. The only thing I havent changed would be the driver side inner-outer tierods. Would this cause this issue?

As far as the portsmouth spot, you talking about Jolliff road across from Cosmos, hicentrd used to go out there alot.

Check your steering extension for the body lift. They can become loose and give those symptoms.
