Isn't there a way you can put a hidden hitch on the front that ties to the frame and then you can have the winch simply slide in and out?

I'm seriously thinking about getting one after my last little trip and getting stuck. I could just leave it in the back and throw it on when needed. That way I can also use it on the rear when I get a hitch back there to...
Also a 9000lb can pull my truck out of a hole if secured to a tree or another truck right? I've always wondered if the 9000lb ment the line strength or pulling strength of the motor....

Yes, that is what I am going to do. I know that WARN makes a package that includes a hitch and the multi-mount for a gen 1, I'm not sure about your '98
9,000 lbs is PLENTY I will be getting a 8,000 lb winch
9k is the load strength

I just really like the idea of being able to keep it in the back when its not being used. that way it stays out of the elements and theives hands.

I know that Gen 1 rear hitches will bolt on to Gen 2's. Maybe the front are similar too :) I'll call em on monday and find out.

Thanks for the reply. I've been wondering that for a while.

the fronts are not similar at all. a gen1 won't bolt to a gen2 front. all warn sells you is a front receiver hitch made by someone else and their winch plate.

you can buy a receiver and then by the warn stuff without it. i bought a front receiver for my truck a few years back for $90 shipped to my door. i sold it earlier this year after i made my custom hidden winch mount.

Which looks bad ass I might add....

Do you have any picks of what the front hidden hitch looks like?

as far as the hidden.. you couldn't really see it except for the little tip sticking out. before i put the body lift on it fit perfectly in the openings of the bumper. after the body lift i had to basically shove the bumper plastic over it which you can kind of see in this pic. i made a little license plate holder that fit in the hitch that kept it from being noticeable except when i was on the trails.

and normal with the license plate because i forgot to remove it for that trip...
