View Full Version : Ball for towing trailers,, recommendations... dsfii93sport 08-23-2004, 05:54 PM I am wondering if there is a standard size I should be putting on the back of my 93 explorer? Anyone know what size shaft fits in there stock? Looks like 3/4". V8BoatBuilder 08-23-2004, 09:31 PM It all depends on your trailer tounge and your hitch. Go measure what you have, I beleive the bumper has a 3/4" diameter hole, as do most receiver drawbars. I carry (and use) both 1 7/8" and 2" balls in my truck. Smaller trailers use smaller balls. A 1 7/8" coupler will NOT fit a 2", and using a 1 7/8" ball on a 2" hitch is just asking for a major disaster. Pheonixx77 08-24-2004, 01:41 AM shafts are NOT standard, i thought that once. then one day i sheared off a shaft towing a trailer because the shaft slipped to the back of the hole and broke off. YES THIS CAN HAPPEN get the right size shaft for your hole...
