Hi, again -

Do the '00 Explorer use floating front rotors? Meaning, Can I remove them from the hubs w/o disassembling the hubs/bearings?

I'm looking to do my brakes soon.

Thanks,

Matt

Yes it's just a standard setup.

Remove the caliper (two bolts), then the pads, and pull the rotor off. Just that easy.

Forgot to add, you also have to remove the caliper bracket (two bolts also)

On my 2k they were rusted on pretty good. I tried whacking them with a rubber mallet to no avail. Finally I took a framing hammer and tapped around the hub and they came off with no problem.

Do a search for brake jobs - on the front pad holders you have to torque them down real good (I saw specs anywhere from 80 - 100 ft. /lbs.) and you also have to use loc-tite (factory was red but most people here use blue). Otherwise, the bolts can work themselves loose!

Its happened to me. Lucky only one bolt came out and it was the bottom one and it just pused the caliper into the inside of the rim only scratching the rim. Thank god That the bumper bolts on the froms were the same threads as i used one of those to be me home

Good thing you are ok. I personally think this is a VERY big deal that should be addressed by Ford. I never heard of it happening on any other car / truck.
