The problem truck:

1967 Dodge D200 Camper Special

The problem:

We added a new alternator, New Voltage Regulator, and a new Starter Relay.

It keeps running down batteries. Had to jump start it 4 times just to get it a quarter of a mile. Anyone have any idea what is causing the problem? It never did this before, and now it is doing this all of a sudden.

The Starter Relay was first to be changed, then the Voltage Regulator, and then the Alternator.

Thanks,

Dane

First 2 guesses:
1) bad wires
2) parasitic power drain when the truck is off
You said running down batter(ies), so that rules out the battery.

If you have a decent digital multimeter you'll be able to find either in a few minutes.

It definitely sounds like a wiring problem. Jumping the battery 4 times within a mile is not caused by a parasitic drain. Once the truck is running (with a parasitic drain) it stays running, the drain will only be a minor issue. Like Alec said you will need to get a meter and check out the battery both running and not to see what kind of voltage it has. I would also carefulling inspect the wiring harness to check for any insulation breaks or loose wires.

Did you have any work done to the truck prior to the problem?

He's right, I was half asleep when I wrote that, it won't be parasitic loss.

It's wiring.
