I'm running the stock sized tires (255/70R16) on my 2000 AWD 5.0. I'm wondering what is a good compromise between ride comfort/control and mileage?
I was running 40psi, but felt every crack in the road. Now I'm running 34psi and am much more comfortable. I know the factory recommends 30psi (on the door sticker). I stay on the road and use the X for commuting.
Any opinions on this?
Thanks!

anywhere from 32-36 Is what I was using on my stock tires. I use 32 in the winter and 36 in the summer. Mainly because in the winter your shock become stiffer(bec. of cold) so the 4 less psi makes up for some of that. I now run an 18'' wheel/tire combo and have decent results with 40 psi with a 55 sidewall.

I run 37 on all corners all year. Provides the extra bit of roughness that I love yet it's not too much. The recommended 30/35 from Ford was way to soft for my liking.

I run 35 PSI on all 4. I found that was a nice compromise and about as rough as I like it.

Wasn't it something like 25 or 27 from Ford? I've run 40-44 on my Wrangler RT/S....my old Michelins the max pressure was 35. Typically I run 35-40.
Edit: 25 or 27 before all the roll-overs and sticker change

Don't run tires at 38+ PSI.. Do the old chalk test method of determing the right psi for oversize tires.. I run 35 on my 33s without any problems.. The higher the pressure the stiffer the ride but you get better gas mileage.
