View Full Version : Sand deriving tips

Hi guys.

I live near to the beach but never go 4-wheeling to the dunes because I don't really know how to drive on blown sand, and I'm afraid of getting stuck there. All I know is that I should air down my tires to about 1/2 street pressure (which would be about 15 PSI).

Any advice? Comments? (I'll be glad to read some).

Funny story! We were in MOab on the pre-run and I have the same tire gauge a lot of the guys have (name brand, nice dial look, etc.) and it seemed to be about 10-15psi OFF so I thought I was at about 8-10 psi, when it turns out I was at about 18-20. The other guys just drove right up, I would get to a point and just dig myself holes... finally near the end of the last day they tested my tires with another gauge (a currie) and brought them down to the REAL P.S.I. and it made a huge difference. So airing down is important http://www.4x4central.com/ubb/smile.gif.

Is 8-10 PSI a goog pressure? I thought 12-15 was already too low... Doesn't running pressure that low (8-10) makes easier to pop a bead? What pressure would be fine for a 2 doors on 31X10.5s, 8" wide wheels?

Something else I should know?
