Hey guys,

Nothing to do with 4X4 or Explorers, but II would appreciate your comments here. My friend lives in Jakarta, Indonesia and sent me the following email. I figured there were enough motorheads and weekend racers here that you might be able to help him out.
Pete

"Anyway, I don't know if you know a motor sport parts and accessories company called Summit Racing in the States. I collected a few of their catalogues when I was in Australia. They are outdated now. Going through the pages of their catalogues again, I noticed that they are selling a tyre treatment called Traction treatment (Brand Name is Formula V). I contacted them on this wanting to buy this from them. Unfortunately, Summit considered this as hazardous material and they do not want to sell it through courier."

"Basically, this tyre treatment is used in drag racing more into traction control. Kinda to make the tyre more sticky so that it really grabs onto the asphalt."

"I am thinking of buying this material for use in drag racing. Drag racing is getting popular in Indonesia and I have a car that I used myself to join in the racing but more for hobby only and not towards real professional competiton. The last time I was in the race, my rear tyre spinned too much, which made lost like 0.5 to 1 second."

"If you or your friends do know this material and can help me out, please advise me the manufacturer's address, tel & fax or e-mail as it will be of a great help for me."

Hey Pete,
Long time no hear. Well, in my youth I used to drag race and we would put Clorox on the tires and in a puddle and spin them. It's the heat that the tires generate when spinning that causes them to get "sticky".
Never heard of the other stuff.

Hey Ray,

Yeah, I used to do that bleach trick with my motorcycle. However the reason was for the effect of the billowing white smoke and not so much to heat up the tires. What did I know, I was still in high school!

One product I found is called Fast Track. You apply it to the tires and it makes them sticky. I don’t know about shipping it over seas though. Check out this web site:
http://www.afcoracing.com/products/getproduct.cfm?CategoryID=1&ClassID=12&SubclassID=40&ProductID=2858

Be warned though, using this product on your tires will make them very stick and cause your tires to age rapidly.

Hope this helps.
