I have a 92 4WD STX Ranger. The manual-adjust outside mirrors fold back at highway speeds. I've taken them off, but can't find any adjustment to tighten them up. Any suggestions other than buying new ones?

JB,

I had the same problem on my 92 Ranger Sport. I tried injecting epoxy and then super glue into the bottom where the mirror pivots in hopes of tightening things up. That didn't work. I replaced the drivers side at 50,000, but at 120,000, not surprisingly, they folded flat over 60 mph. Part of the problem is my 85+mph runs across Illinois, but I think it's ultimately just another case of poor engineering...

Now I have small hose clamps between the base and the body of the mirror, which is admitedly ugly, but it is functional, and a lot cheaper than replacing the stockers every 50K miles...
