Well today I got tired of my wore out 235x75-15 BFG at's and went to pepboys and got the equivelent to the BFG at's, called the Futura Dakota at. New size also....31x10.50-15! I had to crank down my torsion bars a little to make it look level and now I need an alignment but it's all good. I have no rub whatsoever and it looks 100 times better. The best part of all of this is I paid only 430 bucks for all 4 mounted and balanced! I might receive some flak but these tires ride much better, handle much better, submit no road noise, less expensive and from what I can tell.....every bit as good as the BFG at's.

Looks very nice. I almost got those same tires, but I got a deal on 31 inch bfg's, they were only $90 each including mount and balance.

looks cool, hows the noise on those tires?

No noise whatsoever! I was surprised as the tread design is very similar to the BFG at's. My explorer has never rode quieter. I feel like I'm a luxury sedan now!

Now you need to lift it at least w/ TT and shackles...

I'm thinking that too. However I tried tt up front and I only got 1" on the drivers because the bolt seems to be a different length and then on the passenger side I was able to get 2" because the bolt is longer! WTF is that all about. I also have the f rated T-bars which I'm told are the weakest so I may get 2" but it may not stay for very long. Any truth to this?

Looks good. Has you gas mileage and power gone down?

Not sure yet. But at 70mph my rpm's dropped by 200-300. So i'm going to assume it'll go down. As far as with power, I can't even tell. It seemed to have more power for some reason?

Pepboys didn't give you any flak about them being larger than stock?

Lil Bo Peep

No. I even asked the guy about how some places won't put larger than stock tires on.....especially an explorer! I was surprised. All he said was, they may rub(I knew that) and then had them mounted. No questions askes except "white walls in or out" Surprised me.

i had that exact set of tires on my old explorer, and was happy with them. only problem is, treadlife is CRAP. they will be completely dont in 40K.

ive got a set of 265/75/15 dakota H/T's on my truck now. they make 3 different qualities of them, from the HT (lowest) to the RVT to the HT (highest). all similar, but the nicer ones last longer. ive got 7k on my new set of dakotas, and they are already showing signs of wear. however, i only payed 330 installed for all 4

Well, I'm a little upset. But just a little. I thought I would check today to see if the tires I had were all the same size....don't know I wanted to but just had this thought that maybe the rears looked wider than the fronts Well guess what? The fronts are 31x10.50's and the rears......31x11.50's!!! They put the wrong size on the rears! i did call pepboys and they will change two out for me. Now the questions is, 10.50 or 11.50?

lol @ pep boys.. anyways that's really odd, all i've heard would direct me to suggest the 31 x 10.50 on the stock rims, maybe 11.5's will be okay, I'm no expert on tires...

I fit 11.50's on stock rims but they were 32's.....I probably will go with the 11.50's only because I like the wider look and footprint. It will all depend on what pepboys will do. I payed for the 10.50's originally.

i have bought tires from pepboys a few times, and i have NEVER had any luck with them getting the size/type of tire right on the first try. and the last time i went in, i actually had to show the "mechanic" how to use a tire balancing machine. whatever, there still cheap enough.

Cheap is the right word! The same for me.....I've NEVER had any luck with pepboys, with really anything. But I'll keep running into the same brick wall over and over again. ;)
