View Full Version : Antenna placement

Hey guys,

Got a few newbie CB questions here. Got me a Uniden PRO510XL and was about antenna placement. I have no bullbar (yet) and need to mount a 5' whip. This is actually a bit excessive for the amount that I'll actually be using it, but I suppose bigger is better...

Anyway, I was just wondering where the best place to mount it would be...I figured on the left hand side, half way down the bonnet...any suggestions?

One other thing, in regards to tuning the thing, when I get the bullbar and move the antenna, will I have to calibrate it again?

Thanks guys,
BK

G'Day BK,
Thought I'd impress you with my study of Australian language. I also know two other words, Fosters, which I understand means BEER, and Shiela which mean Girl. Not bad for a "Yank" Eh? OOPs, sorry "eh" that's Canadian for eh. http://www.4x4central.com/ubb/smile.gif
You have a good radio. http://www.4x4central.com/ubb/smile.gifYou didn't say what type of mount you have for your antenna and what type of antenna. My Wilson 1000 has a 64" whip, and is mounted on the top just in front of the roof rack. I have to take it off to get into the garage, but it gets out good. My opinion is put it on the top.
Try this link out. it has been discussed before and has more info to help you make up your mind. http://www.4x4central.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi Ray,

Been watching the Simpsons for all the cultural learning opportunities? [I see you've played knify-spoony before]

Anyway, as far as the antenna goes, I'm not really sure what sort it is, it's just 5' long, black and has a red tip (keep it clean, boys). It seems pretty generic to me. The coil is near the top, but not at the top.

I have an "L" shaped bracket that is to be drilled into the little wall bit nest to the bonnet, held with some self tappers.

Thanks "cobber" (that's another one) for the information,
BK

Hey BK,
sounds like the place you have in mind should be ok. You just need to remember anything that isn't out over the roof(bonnet?)won't put out, because the signal is reflecting into ground, so keep it as high as possible. http://www.4x4central.com/ubb/smile.gif Hope this helps.
