I read in the November issue of Petersens 4x4 that there are some hams out that can be easily modified to use cb as well as cbs. Anyone know of this? What models? Just what the hell is CBS? I want to get into ham, but I don't want the clutter of two head units in my sport.

The mods are probably done to mobile 10meter radios like the Rangers and Radio Shack HTX-100 (discontinued). The major concern is that these radios put out a minimum of 25 watts of power. YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW if you put this much power out on CB Frequencies.

Hix,
If we ever get together for some wheelin, I'll show you a ham radio that was modified for cb use. Ron was right in that it is an illegal setup due to the power output......

ps. sorry i couldn't make it yesterday, i woke up sick, and had to go into work for a few hours. next time i guess.........
Eric,
S-allright, It was raining and very muddy. A good time was had by all. As far as wheeling goes I am trying to get the nj jeep club to allow a few of us to tag along on thier trailride to Paragon on the 24th. You up for it?

As a liscensed ham operator i would like to say they are right, moifying a ham radio to operate on cb frequencies is illegal. I would also like to say that it is illigal to modify any radio that transmits on the 11 meter band (cb). that includes modifying a cb. Is it likely that you will get caught, no, but now you cant say you didnt know. :exporange

"Just what the hell is CBS?"
I believe that is Channel 2 on my cable system.
