I just got my Cobra in mike CB yesterday. Now I have a few questions. First, where would be a good place to put the connecting box? I am thinking maybe on the center console, maybee where the change holder is? Or just under the center dash. I want it semi-hidden. Secondly, what is the best way to power it? Wiring it directly to the battery or put a cigaret lighter plug on the wire and use the cigaret lighter for power. The instructions said that it will automatically turn off if powered by an aux. plug so I am leaning towards the cigaret plug power.

Thanks for your help

I myself am in the market for a new CB so please tell me a bit more about the CB you got. There are a few places you could "hide" the main part, I have all kinds of stuff stashed behind the steering wheelbehind the dash, where they can be accessed from down near the pedals if necessary, no removing of dash that way http://www.4x4central.com/ubb/smile.gif. As for wiring... heres how I did my current CB. It has three wires (not sure if yours has two or three). One ground, one power, and one switch, same as my lights. So I hooked the power wire into some fuse that was around 30 amps (way overkill I know!), hooked up the switch wires to the radio fuse, and the ground to a grounding location. This way the CB only comes on if the radio can come on (for example, ignition on or key in the "on" position) so each time you turn off the car, the cb gets turned off. but since it has power hooked up constantly, when the car is turned on and CB comes back up, it is on the same channel you were on when you shut off the car.

The CB has 40 channels plus ten weather channels. It has a button that takes you to ch. 9 and 19 instantly. It has a lock switch that locks into the channel you are on. Cobra has put a sound tracker system on it that cuts noise up to 90%. It has a 4 watt output. I really like it. I got mine for $102 from www.electronicsoutpost.com (http://www.electronicsoutpost.com) ( they had the cheapest price I could find)

Hope this helps Matt.

Hey Matt,
What Brian has is a Cobra 75 WX ST. Bills 2-way has them for 94.99 and has a couple of "Factory Refurbished" ones for 69.99. I have dealt with him before and found him to have very good prices, plus good delevery times. This model has all the works in the mike. There is not other box other than the box that you connect the power to.
Here's a link Bill's 2Way (http://www.garlic.com/bills2way/equip/multilst.html)

Brian,
Gerald Jarrett has the same model as you have. He would be able to help you out as far as where to place the power box. I think he put it under the drivers seat, but not sure.

Thanks for your suggestions. I actuall installed the box yesterday but I havent hooked up the power. I want to hook up the wire to another that is under the dash that only has power to it when the ignition is on. Havent found that wire yet. Anyway what I did to install the box is to take a piece of strap iron that is 1/8 in. thick by 1 in. wide. I cut the piece into a c shape and drilled holes to mount the box. Then i took a hose clamp and clamped it to the suppourt rod for the dash near the gas pedal. Now the box is up out of the way and out of sight.

Hi Brian,

I hooked mine up similar to you except I did it to the left near the parking brake pedal. I wanted power anytime so I wired it directly to the battery with an in-line fuse. FYI, wiring direct to the battery supposedly avoids some amount of interference in the CB that you would have wiring it through common connections in the dash.

Hope this helps,
Gerald
