View Full Version : What are the wires for?

I just got a Cobra CB radio from a buddy of mine. It has no mic or antenna. I have two questions. One is there are three wires coming out of the back one black, one red, and one orange. The wires have a big tag and it says red to pos.+ and black to ground-, but nothing of the orange, but then the actual wires individually have tags on them the black with ground and the orange with pos.+ and the red with nothing. Isn't this a contridiction that's how I understood it. Could anybody answer this question and suggest a good mic and antenna. I don't want a noticable antenna, nothing 5 feet long, just a small one. I also am planning to put the CB in the ash trash(don't smoke and won't allow anyone to smoke in the truck), any suggestions on installation.

try this.
Black to a ground source
Red to a ignition switch source( something that comes on only when your ignition is on)
orange to your constant power source (battery)
