View Full Version : Vet rims on an X?

My cousin has a camero with some vet rims on it that look really nice. Kinda like the Cobras. But, he is looking to change them. Is there a way to get these to fit a '97 Ex? Do they make adapters or something?
Thanks for the help!

Hi CaptKirk:

Yes, you'll need adapters. The Vette wheels need a 5x4.75 bolt pattern, while your Ex uses 5x4.5. Also, if they're like most Vette/Camaro wheels, they'll have too much backspacing for your Ex. Adapters can fix both of these problems. You need to get a set of high-quality hubcentric adapters (I've used H&R), which will cost a lot. Don't get the cheap ones, or you will suffer from vibration problems. It would be best if you could move the wheels out so that the center of the tire contact patch is close to where the stock one is, so that you don't overload the wheel bearings.

Unless you're getting the Vette wheels for free, good adapters will add enough cost that you may want to consider just buying a new or used set of wheels that fit properly without adapters. Also, adapters have a reputation for being unsafe, though this seems to be unfounded. If it were me, I'd pass on the Vette wheels if I could find similar wheels that fit without adapters, regardless of cost.

Regards,
John.

Thanks for the reply. I thought they made adapters, but didn't realize they are that expensive. And I hadn't thought about them being unsafe. I pull a trailer, with me and my famliy doing a lot of camping.
So, for the two reasons you mentioned, I think I will pass on them.
Thanks!
