I was just wondering .. anyone out there running Pro-Comp X-Terrians? Like, Dislike? any feedback would be nice!! I think in December, i'm going to run 33 x 12.50's and i was just wondering what anyone has to say about them. Thanks :)

I have a set of 33x12.50 X-Terrains on my Explorer and I think they perform really well offroad, they have large knobs and a directional pattern, and look pretty cool. I don't know what mods you have made to your Explorer, but I had to put quite a lift on mine inorder to accomadate them. Please post a description of your Explorer.

i HAVE A 95' Eddie Bauer 4x4 Explorer and I am running 31 inch All-Terrians ... I don't know much about systems all I know is I have 2 12's and a 1600 wat amp., which I am pretty sure is alpine .. My dad did the whole system thing to ,my truck all I know is that I like it ((I'm blonde)) Country music sure hits gtood :)

So I'm assuming you have a stock lift, I hate to break your sweet little heart, but you will have to have a lift installed inorder to run those 33" X-Terrains. If your just going for appearence I would go with the 3" body lift, its realitively easy to install and fairly inexpensive, a Trailmaster 3" kit runs around $150-$200, that is providing you do it yourself. Good luck :)

oh well i am putting a 4" superlift on there... i know couldn't run those stok LoL I'm Blonde and all but not that dumb!!

10-11-2004, 11:33 PM
Sorry didn't mean to offend you, its just you kept emphasizing that you are
((Blonde)) and you know how that stereo type goes, but I think its bull personally, some of the smartest gals I've ever meet happened to be blonde. Anyway you should be gold with the 4" suspension lift run'in those 33" X-Terrains. They probably won't even rub. :)

Chew_12
10-11-2004, 11:54 PM
You will rub a lot with only a 4" I rub on right turns and I have a 5.5" Lift. I do have the Xterrians and so far they are awesome. I havent been able to use them much though.

She has a 2nd Gen. Explorer and I believe the fender clearance is a little better then our 1st gen. Explorers (although I could be mistaken), also I've got a 3" body lift in addition to my 5.5" superlift so I don't rub at all. :D

10-12-2004, 01:08 AM
Ah your right...Im not sure how much lift you need. But they are good tires

The X are good tires, However not that great in snow and deep mud. I had 305/70/16 (33/12.50 ), I replaced them with Super swampers SSR and what a difference. Also they run small and you will rub. I know I had to trim bottom portion of fender and hollow out the trim. With TT and body I have a total of 5 in of lift. Had to trim more when put on 35s. Hope this helps.

O YEA!! Duh i knew i looked at this thread for a reason.. WOW. Thanks Matt. Well the tires are great and the balance came out perfect. I havent had a chance to test it in snow or rain yet but that time will come.. They ride really smooth compared to my BFG Muds i was running and they are much quietter.. So my opinion for now is that they are great tires

Dont let him charge you an extra 400$ just because of the tortion bars. All he will have to do is grind off the weld and drill some holes for it to work.

Hey, well my Ex is not really set up for offroading, but I know a few places. Have you been around Maxville area? It's by HWY 301. Also middleburg, esp. jennings state forrest is decent place. I don't know what side of Jax you live at, but am over on the westside near orange park. There used to be some great action around collins road, but they built so much houses now. If you like going driving around the beaches. I would go to Hugenot park and futher up north for some beach driving. Where do u wheel at?

I've been out to Lawtey (301).. The guy i was dating and am now talking to again (LoL), we use to go out to Lawtey like every Sunday.. except now the darn place is flooded. Yea, hmm I go offroading out off Alta drive, just 1 exit north of Hecksher... during the summer every saturday we go out to Hugenot. I've gone in St. Augustine, off state road 210, Junlington Creek area, I use to go to Collins all the time... I live on the southside.

Yeah, there is quite a bit of private properties around Jacksonville. I used to go to collins and the beaches quite a bit awhile back. My friend of mine went to Hugenot a few times and the cops will pull u over if you "wheel" there on purpose. Collins is pretty fun back then, a couple of lakes back there and if you go futher back you will run into the bluff landing where boats from the river park there. Do you know where imeson park is?...the old sears warehouse/AOL center? they are some great sand hills there! But again if you go there, your trespassing. but I guess you are in the right areas to wheel..out of JAX...lol! I wish I had a beater I just take it anywhere without any fear out ruin it, but I'll ride with you :D

I've got several hundred acres of nothing but mud, creeks, trees, hills, and fields. I think I'm just going to have one big ass Explorer fest and invite everyone on this web site to bring it and see if ya'll can keep up with my X. Just make a whole week of it and charge no fee, just BYOB, and camping gear. Its the least I can do to show my appreciation for all of the valuable info I obtain from this wonderful web site. Or I could just pay that $30 bucks and become an Elite Explorer. Maybe I'll just do that instead. :D

'92 Explorer 4x4, 3" body lift, 5.5" superlift suspension, 33x12.50 Procomp X-Terrains, Manual hubs, Going to jack it up another 6-10"s , drop a 351 V8 in it change the whole drive line to support it and run some 46" tires, Maybe even bigger if thats possible, na I'll just leave it the way it is and buy a freak'en monster truck, That would probably be cheaper anyway

I spotted this thread and wanted to place my .02 - A member in my club bought his set of 35" X-Terrains and 15x10" 589 Eagle Alloys from a friend for $600.00 - He then, sent the wheels to Trail Ready and had the wheels converted to beadlocks. Rodney has 'wheeled the tire/wheel combo for close to 1 year, and is not happy with the lateral traction on rocks, nor does he like the amount of chunking that the tires show. He takes his Rubicon to The Hammers regularly, and is speaking from experience. Now, one side of his vehicle is BFG MT/KMs and the drivers side has the X-Terrains. He also says that the tires are manufactured w/bubbles in the rubber - cause for the number of outstanding lawsuits against Pro Comp Tire Co.

The other guy in my club runs Pro Comp X-Terrains (35") with zero complaints. He isn't as crazy w/his Rubicon, but regardless, lives 5 minutes from his work, and with only 6,000 miles on the X-Terrains, his tread is already at 50% total wear! He doesn't spin his tires on rocks because he would snap his stock axles if he drove hard. So, very little usage of rear lockers on the rocks, and his tires are already halfway bald. Not very good mileage. Not sure which tires Bud will pick next, but, he's a no nonsense guy who 'wheels with the best of 'em.

Myself, I run TrXus MTs. I cut a sidewall this weekend, and the tire still holds air. With a healthy .25" cut into the sidewall, the tire holds air just fine, but now resides on my rear tire carrier waiting to get swapped for a new tire.

Just watch yourself with those X-Terrains. They don't get the 40,000 mi. the engineers claim they get. They also suck on rain-soaked streets. You might want to read up on their lawsuits.

-Ken

With the recent rain here in NJ i was finaly able to test out the Xterrains on wet pavement.. I believe they performed better than my BFG A/T's did at times, And MUCH better than my BF Muds did.

Yea i loved my xterrains on wet surfaces. They always had great traction in the rain. And I put 3000 miles on them + wheeling and they hardley wore at all.

And in mud, they were awesome! I got stuck as hell in the pines, but since i knew there was a big a$$ F-150 to pull me out if i couldnt get out, i opted to put my truck in reverse and hammer the gas to see what'd happen.... they pulled me right out as long as i kept them spinning, it was great
