View Full Version : Buy the BFG's??
alphabets13 10-11-2004, 04:48 PM i need new tires before winter and i have a decision. i currently hve 31'' pirelli scorpion at's, i am happy with them, but they weren't too impressive in the snow and they wear kinda quick. i can get BFG all-terrains for $106 ea through my gf's father who has a garage. my other choice was the bridgestone dueler revo's but he can't get me these through his conncections so i would have to pay $122 ea plus about $70 s&h through tirerack. here is what i need in my tire:
i do no off-roading
need good wear
city and highway driver
need to be good in snow
need to ride good
need to look good, hehe
thats about it. do the bfg's hold up with what i listed above? any help would be great. thanks.

Lil Bo Peep 10-11-2004, 05:18 PM Yep, go with the BFG's. You won't be dissapointed!
TSTONE 10-11-2004, 05:34 PM I love BFG tire's - have used them for years on all my hot rods(and still do). I love the look of the 31/10.5-15 BFG AT's so I got some in 93 when I bought my X new.
I am on my 3rd set of BFG's (2-AT's, 1-AT/KO's), I won't buy a 4th set.
My first set dry rotted and leaked air from the sidewalls at 4yr's/28K. I got some satisfaction through a buddy at a GoodYear store, otherwise I would have been screwed.
My 2nd set lasted a bit longer roughly 5/50 then I had 2 of them throw belts. grrrrrrrr.
My 3rd set I got lucky on and got a deal from a guy here on the board - they are ko's and have probably about 60K on them and have been OK so far.
I love the look - but I won't buy them again, for me the ride is fair and my overall experience hasn't been the best. My next set will probably be the michelin in a comparible size to a 31" - 285??

wow, nice.
Ford_Racing_Guy 10-13-2004, 02:06 PM Bridgestone All Terrians, good wear and mileage, quiet, very good ratings, not to mention the UNI-T tread construction
Bronco638 10-14-2004, 10:02 AM My brother-in-law has been thru two sets (now on his third) of the BFGs on his '94 4Runner. He got about 60K miles out of each set. Mind you he rotated them regularly and checked pressures often. He swears by them and even went as far as to rip the Bridgestones off the new 4Runner my sister has and replaced them with another set of BFGs. He's a salesman and obviously does a lot of driving (they live in Evergreen Colorado, just west of Denver) on road and off. While the Dueler Revos are good, too, for that price, I don't think you can go wrong.

the price is probably going to be the decising factor. i love botht he bfg's and the bridges's, but for $424 i can get 4 brand new bfg's. the closest i can get the bridge's for is $488 plus $70 shipping.
alphabets13 10-20-2004, 02:42 PM i decided to go with the BFG's, and i picked them up today. they are going on friday and i'll let all of you know what i think and i'll post pics too. thanks for the help.
Bronco638 10-21-2004, 10:11 AM Yeah, let us know how it goes and what your initial impressions are.

Impressions: it's only been a day. they ride nice, maybe a little harder than my pirelli's, but not positive on that yet. they are much quieter than the pirelli's. they handle great. still have yet to use on highway, in rain/snow. i'll update more when i find out.
IAmTodd 10-23-2004, 08:43 PM I wouldn't have recomended them. They get noisey as they wear. I rotated mine every 3k miles and they are still noisy. I would have recomended the Rugged Trails. But those look great on yours. Are those 30s or 31s?

they are 31's. i like the at's better than the rugged's. i don't know if they can get much louder than my pirelli's were. they made a whirling sound that got annoying at times. good tires except for that really.
IAmTodd 10-23-2004, 09:39 PM These are excellent tires also except the sound. I use mine as onroad for 99% of driving. Right now it will be 100% onroad. They hold the road well and I've had no problem in the rain. They corner well, but I also think they they send alot of the bumps on the road into the vehicle. But the 3-ply sidewall is nice :) I also like the rim gaurd.

i'm also onroad 100% of the time. only time i'm offroad is when i don't mean to:confused:
