Dear @all,

I have experienced a prob the last weeks that my dealer is not able to correct. After filling the tank of my '02 XLS 2WD 4.0 SOHC M/T the 'Check Fuel Cap' lamp is out. Then I normally drive 200mls and the tank in the meanwhile becomes half empty. Then the 'Check-Fuel-Cap' lamp comes on and stays on. The only way to get it out is to remove the battery ground for 30 seconds.

It stays out then. Up to the situation the car is filled up again, then drive around 200mls..... see obove.

Does anybody has an idea what could cause this strange situation?

Thank you,

Joachim

Not sure if this is the problem, but the tank system has sensors that monitor pressure in the tank (environmental system to capture/recirculate gas fumes). If there is a leak in the system, or problem with the sensors then you'll get the light. Simplest thing to try to fix is changing the gas cap itself. It may not be sealing properly. If problem persists, need to check the lines running from gas cap to tank for leaks.
