Hey All,
It's getting cold here again, that along with the audio equipment I have installed in my truck has got me thinking about installing a remote start / alarm in my truck.
Currently I have the factory keyless entry, no factory alarm, keyless entry on the door (keypad), and puddle lights in my 98 Mountaineer. I'm considering a few different Units, Right now I'm leaning toward either a Viper 791 or a Prestige 996a both are 2 way remote start / alarm units w/ LCD Remotes.
Here are a few questions I had about putting one of these in my truck:
1) I know I need the PATS Bypass module, any pro/con to using one that doesn't need an extra key vs. one that uses an extra key? Ive got an extra key I could use so thats not a problem.
//Quick Edit, I'm looking at getting This (http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=637) for bypassing the PATS system, Lists Mountaineer 99+...whats the difference between 98 and 99 as far as the PATS goes?
2) Will I need anything in addition to the alarm to still have the puddle light's in my mirrors come on when I unlock the doors?
3) Is their any way to retain the functionality of the keypad for entry to the vehicle or will that be disabled?
I'm still debating on Having it installed or doing it myself, anyone know if any of the 'T' harnesses that are around will work or help out w/ installing either of the alarms mentioned above? Any other advice/comments you have are welcomed.
Thanks for the help!
