View Full Version : Sub latency

I've noticed that every once in a while, when I'm pushing quite a bit, there's a bit of latency. It's like the sub lags behind the rest of the speakers for a split second. Maybe it's drawing too much power? Think a cap would fix this?

Cabling should be good; I'm using Monster MicroXLN. Sony Xplod 1600w max amp (@2ohms), running it at 3 ohms with an Audiobahn ALUM10Q.

I would consider a smaller box, sealed box, or more amplifier power to get the sub to act faster. As long as there is electricity in that wire it is traveling at just about the speed of light. Drawing too much power does not slow down your signal.

I was afraid you'd say that. I'm only .07 cubic feet over audiobahn's minimum for a sealed box (search: Subwoofer Enclosure Plans on this forum to see what I built). I might put some stuffing in and see how it acts...

Are you wired in series or parallel? I had an issue with my alpine Type-Rs in parallel and switching the wiring seemed to help.

I have one sub, but it's dual voice coil. It's wired in parallel. Changing it to series would put the sub at 12ohms, and I imagine it would sound horrendous. maybe I wired it wrong when I put it back together (a contact on my terminal cup recently broke)... bah, I'll figure it out one way or the other...

What size woofer are you using ? 15s tend to be a little slow. . . also It sounds like it could be a phase problem also...

what amp are you powering it with ?
