View Full Version : Uk Mpg
Mozzer 12-21-2004, 02:13 AM Guys
This is a shout out to the UK owners as the US MPG figures are probably non comparable - Smokegrinder, Howard, Inthesticks, etc,. what MPG are you guys getting - my old man reckons he could get 22 from my X when he owned it but I can only get 18 at best out of it ?
Is this a case of heavy right foot or are you guys the same ?
Cheers
S
Howard 12-21-2004, 02:23 AM Hiya,
Well for the past two years I have averaged 18.5 MPG (UK Galls). I don't think you have a lead foot but maybe you are just doing shorter journeys. I find that if all I do is local stuff then the mileage drops to 16.0 MPG but if I do a long journey then it climbs to 27.0 MPG (my best ever). I use excel to keep track of my fuel and service times
Mozzer 12-21-2004, 04:34 AM I have an almost identical spreadsheet for all of my cars (not sure if that's sad or not:)) - don't know how you posted yours, but the data is as follows - never have I had a 27 :thumbdwn: :(
Plus 20s are long trips to Wales, rest is mid to short distance stuff.
Didn't someone on here go for an LPG conversion not long ago ?

My drive to work is only around 5 miles and the best I’ve got is 17mpg, £50.00 of fuel gets me around 200 miles and if I actually use the throttle it's down to 15mph.
I,m looking into LPG in the new year i'll let you know how i get on.
Wonder if we can still get grants for it? i'll look into that too.
Mozzer 12-21-2004, 08:32 AM I just tracked back through my old posts and Inthesticks you were LPGing, how did that go and did you get a grant ?
Sneakypete's gonna be interested in your experience too.
IGNORE ALL OF THIS - JUST SEEN THE OTHER POST THAT HAS ALL THE ANSWERS - DOH !!!
Nippon 12-21-2004, 10:43 AM I recently went on a Lamborghini Diablo track day at Goodwood in Sussex, I went in the Ex and it took me 2 complete fill ups £59.00 to get there and £61 to get back, mind I was hoofing it on the way back :D , I did a total of 552 miles ( York - Goodwood and back ) on £120 of juice....so someone work that out for me, I daren't. ! 89p a litre, it works out somewhere about 18.5-19 mpg
IN THE STICKS 12-22-2004, 03:55 AM Before I had the LPG fitted I got about 19mpg , this was mainly the the 30 mile round trip to the station , I guess on a run with the overdrive kiked in I should get more . Since the LPG I've got between 15.5 and 17 on the same trip , they reckon you should allow for about 10-15% less on LPG so I guess I'm about right . I'm due to take the beast down to the South of France in a few weeks, I hope to get a few more miles from the tank then , I'll report back and let you know .
Take care
Dave :uk:

I didn't get a grant :( , There's a list of cars that qualify for one and I don't think the Explorer is on it .I think to be on the list they have to have quite a modern fuel efficient engine :D , you can check it out on the Government site here http://www.transportenergy.org.uk/grantsavailable/powershift/

SneakyPete_UK - How did you get on with this ?
It just may be possible that if the conversion isn't too price prohibitive, you may be able to stop me selling my X
Cheers

Cost me just over £1500 for the conversion (quotes ranged upto £2000), done by an approved LPGA installer I reckon if you do 10,000 miles a year you will start getting your money back towards the end of year 2 , so you've got to be looking to keep the car for a while or do higher milage to get your money back sooner

Mozzer 03-03-2005, 12:43 PM Cheers Dave I think I have decided to chop it in for £5500 :( against a Pug diesel estate - its the dogs car afterall.
