Suddenly, my stereo goes dead if If I switch to Drive or Reverse. No sound, no display, nothing.

The stereo is fine when in Park or Neutral.

I've had the same stock audio system in my 98 Explorer since I bought it.

Everything else works fine including heat, interior and exterior lighting, etc. Just the stereo.

Any suggestions?
