I have a 95 4x4 with 176,000 miles on it, recently got a new trans (it has 40K on it now) and i am just wondering as to what the normal operation of the control trac system is. when i engage it on snow, it makes several med clunking noises (engaging?) and as the backs spin/catch the fronts will go... then stop... then go again. is this normal? obviously i dont know much about these trucks yet and i want to learn :). any feeedback would be helpful. thanks.

yep thats normal for your 4auto position...when the rears slip it sends power to the front until traction is regained. 4low will give power to both ends at the same time though.

thanks... im just surprised that the front wheels would move in spurts like they do... move... stop... move... stop... also i didnt know what its like when it was new. i have no clue as to what 176 grand may have done to the trans/xfer case :)
edit: oh, thats right the trans only has 40k or so on it. i guee its time for a fluid change
