Clarion amps are low-end stuff, for people just starting out, just want a little more power and don't plan on going to far with their system, If the above fit you' you'll like Clarion amps. Now their head units and CD changers that a different story, they can go from low-end to hi-end. hope I helped you a little.

hey guys thanx for the replies, the amp is a 240 watt 2/3/4 channel part number apa 4160 which i would probably use one for the main system and another one for the subs , is the price i quoted a good one $210 or is that what i would expect to pay for that model anywhere? the cd changer is part # m635 6 disc and it was priced $230 what about that is that average or a good low price since i'm getting it at cost, can i find better stuff for less at local audio shops? we have a cd head that lists for $255 i didnt get the part# though but the dealer price was like $485 so im guessing it's a better unit, let me know i dont want to go extreme with this but i do want some louder QUALITY sound, it ahs to sound good i dont want bass bass bass, although it should be right to i want clean all around sound. anyway let me know if those prices are pretty low or just average. thanx for the help.

Clarion is a decent name. You can honestly make just about anything sound pretty good depending on how it is installed, but it is better to go with something that has a good warranty. Clarion used to have a pretty good warranty and good customer service, but I don't know how they are now. The only Clarion systems I've seen that really sounded bad were installed very poorly. I've only used a couple different Clarion decks in my time, but I never had trouble with either. And they were in the early 90s, so it should be better now.

The amp (APA4160) is about 2 years old, came out sometime in 1997, so that price is about right since you said you can get it new. In 1997 that amp was going for a little over $300. The CD changer I only could find model #CDC635 maybe they're the same but it also is 2 years old and it listed for about $260 back then, so as long as it's brand new $230 isn't bad. One thing to remember, when buying old model equipment is, things have change for the better, for example that amp was made 2 years ago, the amps clarion make now have many more improve parts and everything they learned to keep up with the competition will most likely be in their newer models, now that don't apply to all companies, like Rockford Fosgate, their older stuff is better but that's because they changed engineers, he when to MTX and they had to start over and their newer stuff is good but not as good. Hopefully I didn't bring you down, just thought you would like to know. You'll be fine with the Clarion.
