Kind of an odd question, but being 6' 5", I use mine almost every time I get into or out of the truck.

Ford changed to a different system in '02, and the new ones are not spring loaded anymore (You mean I have to move it myself?). I'm wondering if this had anything to do with the reliability of the tilt assembly on the 2nd gens, or if it was changed for other reasons.
