I have been looking all afternoon for info on chips. I have seen a couple threads but other wise not much luck. I was wondering what the best chip is? What octane of gas do you need to run? Where can I get one? I have a 98' explorer with 4.0 SOHC.
How much gas will you save and how much more horsepower do you gain?

I've wondered the same thing.

I come from the import tuner scene, where the hot ticket is getting your ECU modded, so that you can plug it into your laptop, and gather data, as well as tune to your hearts content.

The closest I can see for the Explorer, is the Hypertech III, and it does appear as though one of those exists for the 99' 5.0L.

Anyone running a system where they can do their own tunes, or are we tied to a manufacturer/dealer with a chip flasher?
