View Full Version : Manifold Leak Details?

Hey all.

I've done a bit of searching here, to diagnose a very slight "ticking" or "clicking" noise I have in my "new-to-me" 99 EB 5.0L.

Sounds to me like it is the infamous exhaust leak.

However, in my searches, I got the impression that the 99 manifolds are not as prone to cracking as previous manifolds. Is this true, or should I still be looking into the possibility of a cracked manifold?

Is it usually the gasket that goes? I'll give it a closer look with the hood up later today, see what's what. This place has definately been an invaluable resource thus far. :-)

Now if only I can get my audio question answered. :p

Do you have the cast or sheet metal manifolds?

I think you should not worry about audio stuff and get some headers, exhaust, etc. :p

It's a 99, so my understanding is it's the cast manifolds. However, I haven't actually looked at them yet, so I can answer that question better later.

I agree that the performance stuff is more important! Problem is, the audio system seems to be shorting, and shutting off. I'd just like for it to work consistently, and not damage anything in the process!

Also, since I'm in California, I gotta wait for the Monster Torque headers to get CARB certification. And, I'm gonna put the Explorer Express suspension kit in before any of that. ;)

is your subs cutting on and off?

if thats the case you have a short on your Remote wire.

Well, everything is shutting off. And I don't have any aftermarket gear, it's all the stock setup.

Technically, yes, the single sub, is shutting off, and sometimes it makes a bit of a horrendous "pop" when this happens.

I'll look into the remote wire as a possible problem. Seems unlikely though. *shrug*
