I don't see what this is going to solve. What do you guys think?

View Full Version : More backlash from the Firestone incident! Positive Vibes 04-08-2005, 02:45 PM I don't see what this is going to solve. What do you guys think? http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/04/07/tire.pressure.ap/index.html 0212353 04-08-2005, 06:16 PM you know the new explorers already have this right? Positive Vibes 04-08-2005, 06:18 PM you know the new explorers already have this right? Doh! Nope this is the first I've heard of this. Now they need to make it so we can inflate and deflate on the fly! Robb 04-08-2005, 06:18 PM I think it is badass!!! 410Fortune 04-08-2005, 06:19 PM I'll keep my 88. You can add these to any tire now days, little sensor straps to the wheel before the tire is mounted.. jimbo74 04-08-2005, 06:37 PM and it says it sounds an alarm if the tire is below 25% of its manufacturer set air pressure... um ford set the pressure low on the explroers, thats why they blew, no fualt of firestones! lets see, 25% of 26 psi = 19.5 psi.. lets say a 5000 pound truck doing 85 on the freeway..hmmmmm . great jsut what i need on the street before any warning goes off...... james t 04-09-2005, 07:39 AM um ford set the pressure low on the explroers, thats why they blew, no fualt of firestones! Traces of foreign material inbetween the belts and the carcass of the tire wasnt Firestone's fault? Yes, FoMoCo set the recommended pressure too low but that was only the tip of the iceburg with that whole incident. ExplorerDMB 04-09-2005, 10:59 AM The sensors are mounted eithere on the rim under the valvestem or 180 degrees. I have to get into the habbit of breaking tire beads either 90 or 270 degrees. We've already had a few Caddys (escalades) come in for a rotate and balance and for various other tire reasons -- but man are they tricky. I didn't do the actual work on the Escalade, but I think it went something like this for a rotate: you move the tires to where they need to be, set the pressure down to about 20 psi then you have to like hit the gas pedal 3 times and the brake pedal twice (some kind of combo) and then the horn will honk and the lights will flash. Well then I think you only have 10 minutes to set the tire pressure to where they need to be and you have to go in the order that the vehicles computer tells you to. Also, I believe it'll honk again when you get to the correct PSI. I think it's some cool stuff and will help people (i.e. ladies) to keep good maitnance on their tires. I would like to know exactly what kind of PSI I have in my tires. And I didn't know that the new explorers had it either! That's real nice. -Drew |
