I Have alot of plating work done, as for rims, is almost more cost effective to buy new ones philipb123 04-19-2005, 09:05 PM Not really. If you find the right place that is. Santa Ana plating quoted me like $90 per rim plus shipping. Just the shipping part is what I dont like. That's why I'm trying to find a local place... IAmTodd 04-19-2005, 09:06 PM If you're talking about your stock rims, they're just a plastic overlay on a normal rim. I believe its easily replaceable. spindlecone 04-19-2005, 09:09 PM Not really. Considering the work envolved for a high quality chrome job, thats cheap, even with shipping, do it philipb123 04-19-2005, 10:27 PM Well I'm trying to spend less then $400. New house really messed with my budget for other things. Not only do they both need to be rechromed, one needs to be repaired. There is a dent on the inside of one of the rims. It goes in about half an inch. I'm gonna call the city and say I hit a pot hole, maybe I'll get something out of that Edit: They're not the stock rims. I bought a set of Oasis Ludicrous and 2 need to get fixed up. I'm talking with the guy at Oasis wheels and he says he can give me 2 blems for $500 plus $120 shipping but I have to send him my 2 bad ones. If he fixes up the 2 rims I'm sending him and sells them for atleast $200 each that's $400 on top of what I want to pay ($400) so I'm trying to go lower. That's why I was asking if anyone here knows anyone at Oasis wheels but got no reply. slmmer09 04-19-2005, 11:31 PM You probably won't get them done any cheaper even considering shipping. I haven't done a lot of car parts, but I have done a lot of bike parts. That sounds like a SUPER price for RE plating. Replating is usually 60-75% higher than doing the same part that's never been plated before. On another note, OZZY customs (very high end super custom m/c work) has had some turnaround problems with Santa Ana plating. I think he's actually changed chromers because of the delays. However, from everything I've heard, their work is excellent. metstalker 04-20-2005, 12:42 AM I'm gonna call the city and say I hit a pot hole, maybe I'll get something out of that good luck with that philipb123 04-20-2005, 03:56 PM Santa Ana Plating is the cheapest I've found. Though someone said you can get them redipped in chrome for $60? metstalker, have you tried it before? spindlecone 04-20-2005, 04:03 PM Santa Ana Plating is the cheapest I've found. I s no such thing as dipping things in Chrome, To properly plate the rims, they will first need to be stripped, for a show quality plate, the will need to be polished, copper plated, than chrome plated, thats just the way it works. Is no cheap way philipb123 04-20-2005, 04:21 PM Well I'm guessing by saying "redipped" in chrome he means rechroming. But I emailed him and he hasn't got back to me yet spindlecone 04-20-2005, 05:42 PM Well I'm guessing by saying "redipped" in chrome he means rechroming. He was way too expensive. Said it starts at $400 per wheel. For some reason I think he works from home and doesn't do it full time. |
