View Full Version : Cleaning engine with Simple Green Bmwz389 05-27-2005, 05:38 PM Ok, so I just went and got the simple green that i was reading about....a couple of questions before I get started. Do I need to mix it with water? or spray it on the areas and then hose it down? and all i need to cover is my alternator and what else? Good luck .... icepounder 05-27-2005, 05:56 PM I did mine about a month ago. Simple Green straight can discolor if left on too long. I warmed up my engine, shut it off, sprayed it with the garden hose and then applied SG straight. I let it sit about 5 minutes (don't let it dry) and hosed it down again. I sprayed it once more, let it sit and hosed it down again. For stubborn areas I used a rag. Overall it took about 20 minutes and worked pretty well. If you have an open air filter you should cover that too. Also you should aviod spraying the electrical connections if at all possible. I usually pull the battery out when I clean mine(just to avoid a short incase of a bare wire somewhere) and I still use a rag soaked with the Simple green around electrical parts. Just my way of doing it. pgregoryt 05-27-2005, 11:31 PM As a "new guy" myself, I can say that sometimes it's easier to ask. It's a quick way of getting involved and getting to know other people. Besides, many times there are better ways of doing things than what is in the directions. (depending on your application). I would say if you don't know if you should sprayy it with water or SG, don't do it! Engine washing is the least of worries when you got an exploder. :eek: |
