View Full Version : exhaust "hangers" 96limitedX 05-29-2005, 01:40 AM does anyone know how to get the exhaust ststem off of those hangers without sawzalling them? i cant figure it out to save my life. only way i see is sawzalling them..any help would be great! j602 05-29-2005, 01:44 AM There should be a rubber boot connecting the 2 "L" shaped hanger together. The hangers should slip out of the boot with a little persuasion. jimbo74 05-29-2005, 01:46 AM if its really hard, shove a phillips screwdriver or awl in the hole of the rubber and pull on the rubber, the awl will offset the little lip on the metal..... 96limitedX 05-29-2005, 03:01 AM yeah the little rubber deals that connect the hangers. thats my problem. i had screw drivers in there. i yanked on it for like 45mins laying under a junk yard truck. ended up just cutting them. and i wont cut thme on my truck cause i need them. they just seem to not want to let go.(the rubber that is) darn i was hoping there was a "trick" to it and i would have it dont easy..lol Mbrooks420 05-29-2005, 03:08 AM I'd just cut them and get some replacements. I don't think they are meant to be reused. Most replacement mufflers don't have the flair on the hanger, so you cut that off of the old pipe, and the replacement muffler slides right in, but has a bend so it won't come out. 96limitedX 05-29-2005, 03:11 AM thats what kinda freaks me out though. when my other muffler was put on then somhow re-used them. im not sure how but they did. and now im trying to go back to the stock muffler and i cant get these stupid hangers to come off. lol thanks guys..i may just say the heck with it and bring it to a muffler shop. Mbrooks420 05-29-2005, 03:13 AM They had special pullers and a lift. :) 96limitedX 05-29-2005, 03:15 AM i want special pullers......(in my most whinie voice :D ) Mbrooks420 05-29-2005, 03:17 AM I'd much rather have the lift. :)Lube it up and get a heavy slide hammer on it. Or go the easy route and drop $20 on a new set of hangers. 96limitedX 05-29-2005, 03:34 AM ahh..lube'em up...great idea. i never would have thought of that. i will have to try it. thanks 2001_x 05-29-2005, 08:30 AM use dish soap without water... it will come off very easily. Just remember to clean them up before you put them back on so the are not slippery. JDraper 05-29-2005, 08:43 AM Hose 'em with WD-40 and use a phillips head screwdriver to help guide them off. They should come off with a little work. It helps if you use the screwdriver to push the lip up when you spray 'em with WD-40 so that it gets all around the stud. 410Fortune 05-29-2005, 10:01 AM Hey! First dont forget you should put a jack under the muffler with a plank of wood to support the weight of the exhaust, then you can fight those rubber donuts with a pry bar. However I am like alot of others here, a quick trip to the auto parts store and about $10 later you can get new hangers, then just razor blade the old suckers. bailing wire works good too :) boominXplorer 05-29-2005, 02:47 PM not happy with the morgan tec? 96limitedX 05-29-2005, 03:13 PM not happy with the morgan tec? no im very happy with it(the sound outside the truck) but as with any aftermarket exhaust it resonates in the cargo are above 3k RPMs. and untill i can do some sound deading im going back to a stock muffler. :) Hartman 05-29-2005, 06:44 PM no im very happy with it(the sound outside the truck) but as with any aftermarket exhaust it resonates in the cargo are above 3k RPMs. and untill i can do some sound deading im going back to a stock muffler. :) You should listen to mine. ;) 96limitedX 05-29-2005, 07:31 PM You should listen to mine. ;) let me go unbolt mine at the y-pipe and i could get an idea..lmao :D j602 05-29-2005, 09:23 PM Who cares about resonation? That's part of putting on an aftermarket exhaust. I've found that Sawzalling works the best :D 96limitedX 05-29-2005, 11:12 PM Who cares about resonation? That's part of putting on an aftermarket exhaust. i do. i want it like stock or as close as i can get it. otherwise its loud inside like some hick truck. Hartman 05-29-2005, 11:35 PM i do. i want it like stock or as close as i can get it. otherwise its loud inside like some hick truck. Well I guess you made the right decision then. Not sure why you chose aftermarket when you just want stock. And I would watch the hick comments, btw. 96limitedX 05-30-2005, 12:01 AM well it wasent ment like that. i love the sound outside. but inside i want it quite. i may be asking for to much. but untill i can do the sound deadining i need to bring this to where i want. a stock ones got to go back on. j602 05-30-2005, 12:52 AM So a 700 hp truck with open headers is hick? I really don't understand your reasoning for loud being hick. Oh, and by no means will a 4.0 V6 come close to being hick. It just doesn't cut it. 96limitedX 05-30-2005, 12:57 AM sorry it came out wrong. i just dont like it. period end of story. i will try the wd40. huskyfan23 05-30-2005, 01:03 AM Use grease. Just grease the end of the metal hanger and the rubber part should pull right off. I use synethic (should make aldive happy :p) Hartman 05-30-2005, 08:16 AM Use grease.
