I'm planning on auctioning this vehicle off in July, but I figured I would attempt to sell it here first, just to see how it would go. I have many more pictures, if someone is serious about the vehicle, I'll make sure you have access to them all.

I'm asking $2200 firm. I'm open to meeting you halfway, possibly, if it's too far for you to come to get it (it's in Indianapolis at the moment). To contact me, email me @ david.heigl@gmail.com, or else post here. This vehicle is currently my daily driver, and I love it. Between my wife and I though, we own four vehicle. This one needs to go, so that we can put a downpayment on a house. (:

Details:

1991 Ford Explorer
4.0L V6 with 169,500 miles
Top-end engine rebuild at 165,000 miles (heads, rockers, pushrods, lifters)
Manual trans. was rebuilt around 135k miles (before I owned it)
Clutch was replaced at around that same time (~135k miles)
Engine now has increased horsepower due to increased compression (new aftermarket heads)
Due to higher compression, the engine needs premium fuel
I get 20mpg city, 22mpg highway

Things that are new:

Tires (three or four thousand miles on them, I think. BFG's, stock
size, mid-grade, from Discount Tire)
Windshield (was cracked when I bought it, didn't have a choice)
Alternator (napa lifetime remanufactured)
Power Steering Pump
Engine Fan
Serpentine
Idler Pulley
Battery
Radiator
Heater Core
Heater Hoses
Thermostat
Thottle position sensor
Retro-fitted system to the new air-conditioning coolant (needs
recharged for the summer)
Wheel Bearings and Races
(Entire front wheel assemblies are rebuilt, really)
Warn Manual Hubs
Front U-Joints replaced (all three, even the pain-in-the-arse one)
Cleaned and resealed/refilled front differential while I had it apart
for U-joint replacement
Spare tire stowage mechanism (old one was rusted off)
Brand new spare tire (still has rubber nubs)
New hangers on exhaust
Driver's door pull
Both front door hinges (upper and lower)
Center console hinge (replaced with steel instead of plastic)
Brakes: (redid entire brake system maybe 7k ago?)
Calipers
Rotors
Drums
Cylinders (all four)
Rear brake lines, as well as junctions
Entire emergency brake system
Shoes

As you can see in the pictures, it has the normal rocker panel/dogleg rust. The view of the rocker panel rust is of the *worst* rocker panel. The rest are not nearly that bad. I have a rust-free rear hatch for it, that is not attached. I also have a new oilpan gasket and rear main seal for it. They are not needed immediately, but it needs to be done eventually, just as part of normal maintenance. The steering is on the loose side (as you would expect with a 14 year old truck). It could probably use tie rod ends and radius arm bushings eventually.

The carpet on the floor is stained, but the seats and dash are in great condition. The alloy wheels are somewhat corroded, mostly from brake dust I suspect. The radio is not currently in the dash.

Like I said, this truck is my daily driver and it works well as a highway vehicle. Given the body condition and all the work/money (I estimate that I've spent about $5k on this truck to date, not including my labor) I've put into the engine and drivetrain, I suspect that this would also make a good rock crawler for somebody, if they had a mind to do that.

Lastly, I have receipts for each and every piece of everything that I've put on the truck. They are all in a file that will go to the new owner, if someone decides to buy.

Back to the top with ye.

If you are interested in this truck, how much would you pay for it?

Is there something I could change/fix to make it more appealing for sale?

I sold a similar truck for 900 bucks. It was a 91 XLT black/tan leather, 4x4, automatic, a/c and heat worked, 4x4 worked and had new auto hubs. It was old and dirty, and the leather was torn, had a few dents here and there. The only problems were the power steering was leaking, and the transmission had lost overdrive, was most likely gonna need a tranny rebuild in the near future, also of note the X had been in Texas and California all it's life and had no rust whatsoever.

good luck on your sale, I'd say with the amount of rust that X has, your gonna be hard pressed to get anywhere near 2 grand, but I'm no expert on X value.

Ah. Well, that makes a lot of sense. I suppose that I just naively assumed that there would be some value in all the mechanical repairs that I had already done. It would appear that this is not the case though.

I'm re-offering the truck. If anyone is interested, please make me an offer.
