I own a '91 Explorer 4.0L and need a new set of tires. I do a little bit of light 4x4ing, but mainly want goot street tires, any recommendations. Thanks

I have heard from many people that the Michelin LTX is one of the best street tires for the explorer.

Hope this helps, take care, and happy exploring!

I have the BFG's All Terain's (31x10.5) on my 97 and I like them.

Keith, are the BFG All Terrains much louder on the street than the stock tires? How is the handling? I want to change to the BFGs.

I've had Yokohama Geolandar A/T's (31x10.5) on my '96 Explorer for 9 months now, and I think they are excellent. They have a more aggressive tread pattern than the BFG A/T's but are just as quiet. Superb wet traction, and good off-road as well. I highly reccomend them.

For a more subtle tire with a great ride and long wear, I also had the Dunlop Radial Rover RV's (30x9.5) for 2 1/2 years before the Geolandars, and was very happy with those as well.

Hello Everyone!

I want to replace the stock tired and possible the wheels on my 98 XLT. Any suggestion on what I should do and would look good with my Explorer at stock height? I want to lift it eventually but the only life that is coming out soon is being made by FABTECH and they want nearly $1800 for it, OUCH!! Any help there as well would be grand.

Thanks for your help!

I ran 30 x 9.5 x 15 BFG's AT until they were worn out and loved them. I recently bought goodyear tracker radials 31 x 1050 x 15 and i love them. they are all season tires and are very quiet on the street. I run on sand a lot and they are perfect. The tread design is open enough to go in the mud, but nothing extreme. They are on the stock alluminum wheels.
