I am planning a 3" suspension, 1" body lift for my 92 Explorer. Stock, I have 31's on right now with no rubbing. What are the chances I could run a 33x10.5 (BFG AT KO) with that amount of lift? I don't mind a little fender trimming...

I would say a pretty good chance it will work fine. Jack Lobdell is running a 4" suspension lift with 33x12.50's with no rubbing at all.

I have one little question for you. If you have not yet done any lift at all on your truck, why wouldn't you just do a 4 inch suspension lift? It would end up being a lot easier and cheaper to do.

Well that was a consideration...but the cost of 4" was higher...I order a JD lift which is 2.5-3" ($400US), adding 0.5" spacers up front ($25) and re-arching the rear with the add-a-leaf (removing the overload) ($30 a side) to get a bit more lift in the rear...for the body lift, I'm doing a custom 1"...same as KyleK did, which will cost me $0. The Trailmaster 4" lift is ~$1500 with new rear springs...and you and others advised against a spring over (which would have been cheaper). So this is where I'm at...JD lift in on the way (paid for) and hopefully going in on the weekend.

Yeah Dale, you go ahead and put in that lift and then you get those 33x10.5" tires, and I'll pretend I'm not jealous at all!

(Wishing I could have 33x10.5 right now too, but got some 31x10.5" to wear out first)

I originally planned on throwing some 31x10.5 on my stock 99 Explorer but I changed my mind and I want to do a suspension lift to get some 33's under there. HOwever, every so called truck gu-ru down here in Miami FL tells me I cant buy a suspension lift for the 99, and that they only make them for the 97 and older. Is that true? If not, where can I get my hands on a 3 or 4 in suspension lift kit????

Unfortunately your "guru" is mostly accurate. His inaccuracy is in the fact that you can't buy a suspension lift for '95 or newer Explorers (front suspension was changed to IFS in '95). None of the suspension companies have tackled the complicated IFS, although Trailmaster is rumored to have a 4" lift almost completed.

It's not all bad news though! What you can do is a simple torsion bar/add-a-leaf lift which is relatively cheap, and gives you approximately 2" of lift, more than enough to comfortably fit up to 32s. I've done the lift on my '96, and have gained 2" front/2.5" rear. I have submitted a procedure write-up, Rick should have it in the "Explorer Tips" section in a couple days.

I'm sure you can fit them on. The link i have here of my truck has a 3" body lift and 31" but i had 33" superswampers on it too http://www.4x4central.com/ubb/smile.gif No rubbing but with the lugs on superswampers, turning can be a problem. I would go an inch higher to be sure like 4". From my pic you can see what 31" tires look like on a 3" lift. In the next month or two i'm going to get 32" tires so i'll post a new pic then. I do more street, snow driving, weekend 4x4ing so i feel 32"s will fit my driving style better. Hope this helps some. Later...
