View Full Version : running power wire for amp
lponestep113 09-12-2005, 04:08 PM hey everyone...first post on this entire forum ;)
im installing a sound system in my friends 95 explorer. so i ran all the wires....everything went fine. however, once everything was done, and i went to put the door sills back on on the side that i ran the power wire, i discovered that since i used 2 gauge wire, the wire was too thick for hte door sills to fit back on. I tried tucking the wire under the insulation that runs along the door....that didnt work. I tried just banging the door sill down as hard as i could. that didnt work either.
any suggestions??? it would have worked totally fine if the wire wasnt so thick, but the amp definitely requires that i use good wire like this.
so can anyone help me out? any other spot i should run the wire?....even though i'd really hate to redo the wiring.
thanks so much...i appreciate any help you can give me
wingot 09-12-2005, 07:03 PM what kind of amp is it and what type of wire did you run?
davidmmm69 09-12-2005, 07:09 PM welcome to the site.. and try running them from engine compartment and go right under the truck. and then back up thru the floor uner the seat...
lponestep113 09-12-2005, 08:05 PM i'd rather not run the wire under the car...too much work.
i'm using an elemental designs nine.1 amp with Rockford Fosgate 2 gauge wires.
lponestep113 09-13-2005, 01:38 PM pleaseeeee help me out
any suggestions are welcome
JPA1982 09-13-2005, 01:43 PM ummm try 4 gauge, sure it will handle the power, wont be as big,
not sure how neone can help, if its to big to go under the door seal, u gotta route it somewhere else, i barely had room to run my 4guage under the door sill and it was under all the plastic trim under the sill

i would gladly use smaller wire if i hadnt already bought this wire lol
i think what im gonna do is run it up the center of teh car and get some industrial strength velcrow to put over it. basically, im gonna kinnda be making a little carpet to go over it. in the front of the car, it wont be a problem cuz thats just hte center of the 2 front seats....no one sits there, and no one really puts their feet there. the only place it'd be a problem is in the center of the back seats. so i'll just have to make sure people are careful back there from now on. i think this is gonna work fine. tell me what u all think
TeamPwnageBrad 09-13-2005, 06:27 PM i had no problem routing a run of 1/0 on the drivers side where all the stock wires run. just pop open the plastic wire cover and it should fit in no problem.

sorry, its my friends car so its not actually here right now....
but where are u talking about? is there a comparment under the door sill that can be popped open?
thewishkah 09-13-2005, 07:33 PM Yeah there is , under the trim panels there is this black plastic cover that has holes in it. Its only held in with snaps if I remember correctly and if you cant fit it under that and close the trim up try just leaving that piece out I dont think it really matters anyway. Im sure if that is an issue someone here will chime in and let you know. good luck.
TeamPwnageBrad 09-13-2005, 07:53 PM 1/0 wire on the left, 4/0 wire on the right lol. just pop off the trim and open up the plastic wire conduit with a screwdriver and run your wire in there.

FexplorerV8 09-13-2005, 11:16 PM thats just how i have my cable, 2 gauge its great for big amps good luck
lponestep113 09-14-2005, 05:33 AM perfect! i feel so stupid for not even noticing it was there haha
but i'm positive it will work now. i just wasnt really familiar with explorers at all. the subwoofer that we're putting into his car is still on backorder, so i probably wont be finishing the entire thing up for another few weeks. oh well.
thanks everybody
FexplorerV8 09-14-2005, 07:27 AM lol good luck
