I found out recently during a routine mammogram that I have a lump in my left breast. After they saw me a second time to take more pictures, they confirmed their diagnosis. They said I was going to have to have a biopsy done to check things out. Now this had got me scared as it was and I was supposed to have this done in a doctor's office in late September, but after looking at my x-rays, he said that he didn't have the proper equipment for the small lump I have. Now imagine that I had been on edge since I found out I had to have this procedure. Now he tells me I'm going to have to have it done in the hospital.....like I'm not already nervous enough from waiting already? I go into the hospital on October 11 at 9:45 AM. So I'm asking all my friends here on the Explorer Forum to keep good thoughts for me on that day. It's a outpatient procedure, but I have to have someone bring me there and pick me up, so I'm probably going to be sedated for this. I just hope this turns out to be no problem for me

Thanks in advance for all your good thoughts......

Sandy, I don't know you but I feel for you in this uncertain time. I went through this last summer with my wife. She had the procedure done in the day surgery part of the hospital and while the surgery went well the outcome was not positive. She was diagnosed with DCIS which was in it's early stages. The rest was a fast learning curve followed now by the strange feeling that this happened for a reason and as so many other cancer survivors have said..it was the best thing that ever happened to them. While I don't wish the agony or worry on anyone it is by no means a 'death sentence'. My wife now is healthier and more invigorated than ever. We don't waist a minute of our life and I know that this has made us stronger. I wish you the best and know that whatever the outcome you can overcome what you thought you could not and the biggest surprise is how truley strong you can be. I know I learn from my wife every day. The last thought is one that was a huge help to us. That is we(actually my wife) was smart enough to step back from all the rush of information from the medical field and take a look at it from a different angle. She used a combination of traditional medicine with natural and diet changes. This has given her some very positive results that even doctors are impressed with. Go in with your head high and know that you CAN have a positive outcome regardless. I wish you luck and hope you take this in the real sense that it was meant.

Good Luck, and don't worry too much if that is possible....

Same thing happened to my mom recently... they found a small lump in one of her breasts.... they did a biospy and still couldnt find anything wrong... so they then did surgery and removed it just to be safe, but they said at no time was there any cancer or anything found.....

Keep your chin up and a remember that a positive attitude will go a long way.
My mother was diagnosed with 3rd stage inflammatory breast cancer in August, I've been taking her to chemo, then she'll have surgery sometime in Nov, then more chemo, then radiation, then 5 years of cancer drugs. A harsh treatment for a harsh cancer. But doctors are optimistic that all will be well and she'll continue to live a full life when they are done.
Believe it or not, the medical field has come a long way in the last few years, advancements in drugs as well as surgical procedures have greatly increased the survival rate for all types of cancers, and specifically for breast cancer.
I am sure you are scared but no matter the outcome from your procedure, just face it head on and most importantly BELIEVE that you will be okay. I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say we wish you nothing but the best of luck.

Same with me. After 2 years of 6 month checks, I am fine. The worse part is the not knowing and the uncertainty about it.

Mine was outpatient as well. Knocked me out cold which this was the first time I had any kind of surgery, so I was really nervous. Came through fine. My thoughts are with you and let us know if there is anything we can do.

You're in my prayers, I personally know 2 women who are survivors of breast cancer and while it was hard on them both, they are good as new and happier than ever, modern medicine is a great thing, and I'm sure everything will work out. Good luck and keep us updated, this is a site full of great people willing to listen and share.

Good luck Sandy. Let's all hope and pray that its nothing serious.

My friends wife had had a lump removed at least 10 years ago (I met them 9 years ago) and is fine. She just has checkups done every so often.

Well, I'm back home and a bit sore. When I went this morning the doctor told me it looked like a cyst but wouldn't know until he tried to aspirate it with a needle, if that didn't work then it was something more than that and it would be a bit more invasive. Well, after checking the position with an ultrasound to see where to insert the needle, I was numbed with lidocaine and then the doctor inserted the needle by what he was looking at on the screen. He was done in less than five minutes.

All this worry for nothing more than a simple cyst. But you never know what you're facing until it's checked.

As easily as I bruise, I'm going to have a nice bruise there by tonight which will make me uncomfortable for a few days.

I really appreciated all of your thoughts and prayers for me. I really feel like I have a second family here :)

Good luck. Char went through that a couple times. Thankfully the results were negative. Tests like that are one of the only things in life you want to be negative;)

It's true but it did give me quite the scare until I found out it was only a cyst.

Give Char my best, ok
