Does anyone in California know if you can have tinted tail lights? I have noticed some around town but the DMV states that they have to be red.

Can anyone in CA help me out?

More than likely it is illegal to tint your tails in california but a lot of people on the Lincoln forum I belong to have been doing it to thier LS's without any problem. I think all you need is to be able to see some kind of reflector and light to be able to shine through. Are you thinking of doing it yourself or have a shop do it?

Don't know...I was hoping to find some information about how to do it. Or if there is somewhere I could buy them and install them myself.

Anyone with some info would be appreciated.

Forum semi-regular "draft" is for SoCal and has the darkest tinted tails I've ever seen (including the reverse lights). He'll probably be able to give you some insight.

Personally, I don't like them too dark for safety reasons. I've got one coat of VHT Nightshades on my tails right now and it's perfect. I once went with 3 coats (way too dark) and had two coats on a previous set of tails (still a bit too dark for my tastes). Pic below of that version (2 coats):

Pretty easy to do. Just takes some time and patience. I'm the least creative guy I know and was able to do it. ;)
