I'm not looking for more HP, (but it would be nice!), what I'm looking for is more space under the hood and the A/C is has never worked in my truck. I bought it used 3 years ago and I love it. It's a 92 Mazda Navajo and I'm curious if removing the compressor, accumulator and condenser will have any ill effect on the rest of the system?
Thanks for any help!!

Yes, the system can be removed without ill effect, depending on the serpentine belt system. If you are lucky, you can just buy a shorter belt to run the remaining accessories. Check to see if the belt can "skip" the compressor w/o interference with anything else. If it does interfere, you will have to fabricate an idler to replace the compressor. Look at the orientation of a non-a/c setup, and go from there. You won't be able to get the evaporator out without removing the whole housing it is in. Be sure to seal up the holes where the lines went in and out. Good Luck!

Success! I got ambitious this weekend and removed the condenser, compressor and accumulator. I did plug up the tubes coming from the evap., and setup a clamp to hold the line that ran to the condenssor. I was able to buy a belt for a non-A/C and completly remove the compreser, and my defrost works better than ever! I did have to fabricate a piece of heavy plastic to block the hole that was left on the passenger side next to the radiator. I used a black piece of plastice and I can't see it witout a flash light so know one else will see it.
After removing the compressor the power steering pump was loader than ever so I replaced it and what a difference that made!
The noise is gone, the play in the steering almost went away and the bounce steering has improved as well.
In other words I had a great, (rainy) weekend working on the truck in the garage. The performance seems to have improved but I think it's just the better steering and less noise.
Thanks for the information.
